It's confirmed! Lady Gaga is joining Joaquin Phoenix in Joker 2, helmed by Todd Phillips. Over a month ago, the actress was in talks to star as Harley Quinn in the movie. Now, a day ago, the actress confirmed the news with animated teaser of the sequel along with the new title, Joker: Folie à deux. In English, the phrase “Folie à deux” translates to "shared psychosis," and refers to a psychiatric syndrome involving delusions being transmitted between two people.
She took to Twitter on Thursday and wrote, "Joker: Folie à Deux 10.04.24."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, "The details on Gaga's character are being kept under wraps. Joker is known for his on-off abusive relationship with Harley Quinn, his psychiatrist at the mental institution known as Arkham Asylum who falls in love with him and becomes his sidekick and partner in crime"
The sequel is said to be made as a musical. Phoenix starred in the original film portraying Arthur Fleck, a troubled man who evolves into a folk villain type figure by the end of the story. The film ended up winning two Oscars the year it was released, Best Actor of Phoenix's performance as the eponymous Clown Prince of Crime, and Best Original Score. In all, Joker received 11 Oscar nominations.
Warner Bros. has set October 4, 2024 as the release date for Joker: Folie à deux.
