Amidst many sequels, Kanika Dhillon and Ekta Kapoor are planning to bring back one of the biggest hits, The Dirty Picture. The film, which is considered to be one of the boldest commercial Bollywood film, is all set to have a sequel. However, while that was based on the life of Silk Smitha, The Dirty Picture 2 one is expected to feature a completely different plotline and a different set of actors. If reports are to be believed, Kriti Sanon and Taapsee Pannu are currently being considered for the role, originally played by Vidya Balan in the sequel.
A source was quoted in a recent report by Peeping Moon who said, "Producer Ekta Kapoor has been planning a sequel to The Dirty Picture for a long time. And she has finally cracked an idea after exploring dozens of them over the years. Screenplay writer Kanika Dhillon, who’s known for writing critically-acclaimed female-led stories such as Manmarziyaan, Haseen Dillruba, Judgementall Hai Kya, and Rashmi Rocket, among others, has been brought on board to pen this film. She is writing the script along with a male writer, and is expected to finish it by year's end. Ekta and her team at Balaji Motion Pictures are excited about this project, and plan to take it to the floors in the first quarter of 2023.” However, it has been asserted that the writer of the prequel Rajat Arora will not be a part of The Dirty Picture 2.
The source also revealed that Taapsee Pannu and Kriti Sanon are keen on playing the lead in the sequel. "Ekta wanted to cast Kangana Ranaut, but she has politely turned down the offer as she doesn’t want to disturb her righteous image. Taapsee, Kriti, and others have expressed their interest, but Ekta has requested them to wait until the writing is finished," shared the source added.
It is also yet to be seen if filmmaker Milan Luthria will be returning as the director of the sequel too.
