Sooraj Barjatya is considered one of the greatest filmmakers of Bollywood. He debuted with the romance saga Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). His 1994 family film, Hum Aapke Hain Koun is a historic blockbuster while the 1999 fare, Hum Saath Saath Hain, turned out to be a smashing success too. Vivah (2006) won hearts all over while his last directorial, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015) too succeeded at the box office. Therefore, there’s a lot of excitement for his next film, Uunchai. It stars Amitabh Bachchan along with Parineeti Chopra, Sarika, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, Danny Denzongpa and Nafisa Ali and is about a story of friendship, as per reports.
Bollywood Hungama has now exclusively learnt about a significant development with regards to Uunchai. Mahaveer Jain has got associated with the film as a co-producer. His production house, Mahaveer Jain Films, along with Natasha Malpani Oswal’s Boundless Media are now also the producers of Uunchai along with Sooraj Barjatya’s Rajshri Productions.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Sooraj Barjatya is a one-of-a kind filmmaker in Bollywood. He was looking for a suitable partner for Uunchai. When he met Mahaveer Jain, he realized that the latter understands his filmmaking sensibilities. This is how both decided to work together on this special project. Later, Natasha Malpani Oswal too came on board.”
Mahaveer Jain has made films like Malaal (2019), Khandaani Shafakhana (2019), and the National Award-winning film Dekh Indian Circus (2012), and is also a part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next on Balakot airstrike. He became a known personality after he was seen in the viral picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Bollywood celebrities. In fact, he was the one who managed to get this meeting conducted successfully. Natasha Malpani Oswal, meanwhile, has produced popular web series like Adulting, Little Things, etc.
Bollywood Hungama in October 2021 revealed that Parineeti Chopra plays the role of a tourist guide from Nepal in Uunchai and that the film is a tale of four friends trying to scale the Everest. In October last year, the film was shot at Lukla airport, located near the Everest Base Camp, Nepal. It is considered the most dangerous airport in the world.
