EXCLUSIVE: CBFC mutes ‘f**k, ‘c*****a’ in Jahnvi Kapoor-starrer Ulajh; also blurs vulgar hand gesture

The month of August will begin with the release of two interesting mid-sized films – Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha and Ulajh. Speaking of Ulajh, the film has managed to catch attention as it deals with the world of foreign services and thus is a one-of-its-kind entertainer. In this article, we’ll report on the cuts the Jahnvi Kapoor-starrer got from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The makers of Ulajh completed the censor process well in time and were awarded a U/A certificate. The CBFC, however, asked for a few deletions. To begin, the word 'f**k' was muted in multiple places. Similarly, the word 'f**king bastard' was also muted. In the same scene, a vulgar hand gesture was asked to be blurred. Finally, the word 'c*****a' was asked to be muted wherever uttered in the film. The film wasn't subjected to any visual cuts.

Once these cuts were enforced, the makers of Ulajh were handed over the censor certificate on July 15. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 134 minutes. In other words, Ulajh is 2 hours and 14 minutes long. The film releases in cinemas on August 2.

Besides Janhvi Kapoor, Ulajh also stars Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew, Meiyang Chang, Rajesh Tailang, Adil Hussain and Jitendra Joshi. It is backed by Junglee Pictures and is directed by Sudhanshu Saria. The film was officially announced in May 2023 with the whole star cast posing together in a serious avatar. As per the first statement released by the producers, Ulajh is the story of a young IFS officer, belonging to a prominent family of patriots, who gets embroiled in a dangerous personal conspiracy while far from her home turf.

In an interview with Mid-Day in October last year, Gulshan Devaiah spoke highly of Janhvi Kapoor, "I never imagined that we would be paired together in a film because we have different sensibilities. Whenever two people with contrasting styles come together, it can be interesting. When we met, she mentioned a few nice observations about my character. She is extremely hardworking. I couldn’t do the amount of things that she does in a week."

Sharvari Wagh transforms for YRF's Alpha by undergoing rigorous boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, mobility drills

Bollywood actress Sharvari Wagh has stepped into the high-octane world of Yash Raj Films' Spy Universe. Cast alongside Alia Bhatt in the upcoming film, Alpha, Wagh is undergoing a rigorous physical transformation under the expert guidance of fitness trainer Robin Behl.

The brief for Wagh's character was clear: strong, sexy, and capable. However, Behl was quick to dispel the myth that strength equates to masculinity. “Sharvari was already in great shape, but for Alpha, we needed to take her fitness to the next level,” he explained it to Mid-day in an interview. “The challenge was to build strength without compromising her femininity or the fluidity of her movements.”

The training regimen was a meticulous blend of strength, endurance, and agility. "We focused on building a strong core, powerful legs, and upper body strength," said Behl. "But it wasn't just about lifting weights. We incorporated a lot of bodyweight exercises, handstands, and mobility drills to ensure her movements were graceful and dynamic." To add an edge to her physique and movement, boxing was introduced into the routine.

Behl also aimed to instil in Wagh the mindset of an athlete. To achieve this, he introduced her to the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under the tutelage of Carl Varel, Asia's number-six expert in the sport. “I wanted Sharvari to experience the grappling, clinching, and take-downs firsthand,” Behl explained. “This would help her understand how athletes move and react, which is crucial for action sequences.”

The training was gruelling, but Wagh's determination was unwavering. “She was a relentless student,” Behl said admiringly. “I often found myself struggling to keep up with her energy levels. She was always eager to push her limits and try new things.”

The results of this intensive training are evident in Wagh's physique. She has shed nine-percent body fat in just five months while gaining muscle mass and definition.

Alpha is directed by Shiv Rawail, who last helmed The Railway Men. Meanwhile, Wagh is also gearing up for the release of her other film, Vedaa, directed by Nikkhil Advani. The film is slated for a clash with Khel Khel Mein and Stree 2 on August 15. Aamir Khan likely to star in slice-of-life project, helmed by Rajkumar Santoshi: Report

Aamir Khan is meticulously transforming his production house into a full-fledged studio. The actor-filmmaker has brought on board industry veteran Aparna Purohit, formerly of Amazon Prime Video, to spearhead this ambitious venture. Aamir Khan Productions is currently juggling multiple projects. The production house has a robust pipeline with films like Pritam Pyaare featuring Aamir's son Junaid, Rajkumar Santoshi's historical drama Lahore 1947, Vir Das' comedy Happy Patel, and RS Prasanna's Sitaare Zameen Par in various stages of post-production.

According to the Mid-day report, while the studio is actively developing new projects, Aamir Khan's return to the silver screen is also on the cards. A source close to the actor revealed that a slice-of-life film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi is being considered. The project is said to be a blend of humour and social commentary. However, Aamir is prioritizing the completion of Sitaare Zameen Par, an adaptation of the Spanish film Campeones, before committing to his next acting venture. Known for his perfectionist approach, Aamir is likely to maintain a steady pace, releasing one film every 18 months.

REVEALED: Not Ranveer Singh but R Madhavan to play Ajit Doval in Aditya Dhar’s next

On Saturday, July 27, Jio Studios and B62 Studios confirmed that Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019) director Aditya Dhar’s next will feature Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal. A black-and-white picture comprising these five actors and Aditya Dhar was released by the makers and it became a talking point. The film also went on floors last week, on July 25. The press release didn’t mention what the film is all about but as per reports, it’s a period action thriller, set against the backdrop of the geopolitical scenario between India and Pakistan. Soon, speculations began that Ranveer would play Ajit Doval, the current National Security Advisor of India, in his younger days.

Bollywood Hungama has learned that while the film does touch upon Ajit Doval’s life, it is not Ranveer who’d essay the character. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “It is R Madhavan who plays the coveted part. He’ll have a cool, different look in the film and it’s something that the actor is excited about. Like always, he’s giving his heart and soul to this role as well. The makers are confident that it’s something to watch out for.”

The source however had no information on whether the character would be named Ajit Doval or will it be inspired by the man. Also, there are no details available about the character essayed by Ranveer Singh.

Interestingly, this is the second time that Aditya Dhar would show Ajit Doval in his film. In Uri: The Surgical Strike, Paresh Rawal’s character Govind Bhardwaj was based on Ajit Doval.

The press release given out by the makers also makes it clear that contrary to popular belief, the film is not called Dhurandhar. The film, as of now, is untitled. It is produced by Jyoti Deshpande from Jio Studios along with Lokesh Dhar and Aditya Dhar under their banner B62 Studios.

SCOOP: G V Prakash Kumar replaces Oscar-winning composer M M Keeravani as music director in Akshay Kumar-starrer Skyforce

Akshay Kumar is all set to have 4 releases in 2024. He began his account this year with the action entertainer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan followed by the biopic Sarfira. Next month, he’ll have a comic caper up for release – Khel Khel Mein. This would be followed by Skyforce, an aerial action thriller. While fans of Akshay are awaiting Khel Khel Mein’s release on August 15, they are also keeping an eye on Skyforce as it looks quite exciting due to various factors. Bollywood Hungama has learned about an interesting development surrounding the October 2 release.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “National award-winning composer G V Prakash Kumar has signed the film as a composer. He came on board a few days back and has begun work on the film. He has assured the team that he’ll complete his work on time so Skyforce can release on its intended date.”

The source added, “It was Oscar-winning composer M M Keeravani of RRR (2022) fame who was the original choice for the makers. However, he and producer Dinesh Vijan had differences of opinion. Hence, they cordially decided to not work on Skyforce. But they promised to join hands in future for an appropriate film.”

The source continued, “Meanwhile, G V Prakash Kumar had just composed the songs and background score for Sarfira and Akshay had a great time working with him. He was also in sync with the vision of the makers. Both parties were excited with the prospects of working with each other and that’s how he became a part of Skyforce.”

Interestingly, one of the directors of Skyforce, Sandeep Kewlani, posted a video today on his Instagram handle to state that Skyforce’s shoot has been completed. He has tagged various cast and crew members in the tweet and one of them is G V Prakash Kumar.

Besides Akshay Kumar, Skyforce also stars Sara Ali Khan, Veer Pahariya and Nimrat Kaur. It is backed by Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films and Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios. Besides Sandeep Kewlani, it is also directed by Abhishek Kapur.

G V Prakash Kumar, meanwhile, is the nephew of A R Rahman who made his debut as a film composer at the age of 19 with the 2006 Tamil movie Veyil. He won the National Award for Aadukalam (2010). In Hindi, he had previously worked on Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012), Joker (2012), Ugly (2014) and Thalaivii (2021). His other films this year are Kangana Ranaut-starrer Emergency, Vikram's Pan-India film Thangalan, the sea horror thriller trilogy Kingston, etc.

SCOOP: Salman Khan-Sooraj Barjatya crack a script idea: “It is unlike anything they have done, individually or together”

Sooraj Barjatya, who last directed Uunchai in 2022, is all set to reunite with Salman Khan with whom he was last seen 2015’s Prem Rattan Dhan Payo.

And no, the film is not called Prem Ki Shaadi.

A friend of Barjatya wondered where that came from. “Sooraj ji is not making anything titled Prem Ki Shaadi. It is a totally different script. He is coming together again with Salman,” said the friend.

Salman Khan and Soorat Barjatya started their careers with the historic hit Maine Pyar Kiya (Salman’s first lead role). Ever since then, they have worked together in four blockbusters of varying degrees of success. Their last film together was Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in 2015. Ever since then, they have been searching high and low for the right script, with no luck….

…until now.

This writer has just come to know that Sooraj and Salman have finally zeroed in on their next project.

A source very close to the development informed, “For nine years, Soorajji and Salman Bhai have been looking for a script that would bring them together again after Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. They’ve finally cracked an idea that they both like. Nahin toh pehle yeh tha ke ek ko pasand toh doosre ko nahin.”

This writer probed further to know more about the next SB-SK collaboration and the informer said, “All I can tell you is, their next will be unlike anything they have done, individually or together. And no, it isn’t called Prem Ki Shaadi.”

This, we have to see. The film is expected to roll early next year.

The last Sooraj-Salman partnership Prem Ratan Dhan Payo was a fable on the aspirations of modern India as well as a fairytale where the 'Pauper' can change places with the 'Prince' to experience what it feels like on the other side of the line of affluence. Significantly there are two Salman Khans in the film, signifying the dual personality in conflict in modern India.

Ranbir Kapoor and Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: 12 opulent sets being erected to recreate Ayodhya and Mithila in Mumbai; shoot resumes late August 2024: Report

Nitesh Tiwari's ambitious adaptation of the epic Ramayana is rapidly transforming from a grand vision into a tangible reality. With Ranbir Kapoor in the titular role, the film promises to be a visual spectacle, and recent developments suggest that the director is sparing no expense to bring the mythological world to life.

Construction is in full swing at Film City, where sprawling twelve sets are being erected. According to a report in Mid-Day, these opulent sets, designed to accommodate the film's 3D format, will recreate iconic locations like Ayodhya and Mithila, the cities synonymous with Ram and Sita. The ambitious target is to complete these massive constructions by mid-August.

Joining Kapoor as the leading lady is Sai Pallavi, who will portray Sita, while veteran actor Arun Govil, best known for his portrayal of Ram in the iconic television series Ramayan, will take on the role of King Dasharath. Yash is signed as Ravana, a role that promises to be career-defining.

While the initial focus has been on capturing Ram's younger years, the production is gearing up for the next phase, with the principal cast set to resume shooting in late August. A surprising revelation has emerged about the film's structure: it will be a two-part epic.

Unlike traditional filmmaking practices where the sequel is greenlit based on the first part's performance, the makers of Ramayana are adopting a more aggressive approach. A significant portion of the second part is slated to be filmed concurrently with the first.

The production schedule is a meticulously crafted blueprint spanning 350 days, encompassing both individual and ensemble sequences. The goal is to wrap principal photography for both parts by December 2025, allowing ample time for post-production, which will be handled by the renowned visual effects studio, DNEG. While the release date remains under wraps, it is expected to be announced once the first part of the filming is complete. Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan’s documentary Angry Young Men eyes October 2024 release on OTT platform: Report

The duo of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, collectively known as Salim-Javed, is synonymous with the golden era of Bollywood. Their scripts, imbued with raw emotion, social commentary, and unforgettable dialogues, redefined Indian cinema. Now, the untold story of this iconic partnership, Angry Young Men, is set to unfold on the OTT platform in October 2024. Announced in 2021, the docudrama will delve into the lives of these two extraordinary writers, tracing their journey from humble beginnings to becoming the architects of Bollywood blockbusters. Their collaboration, spanning 24 films between 1971 and 1987, birthed iconic characters and narratives that continue to resonate with audiences.

Speaking to Mid-day, Arbaaz Khan, Salim Khan’s son, emphasizes the significance of documenting their legacy. “They are legends and need to be documented appropriately,” he said. “Their grandchildren would not know about their humble existence, rise to fame, or why they went their separate ways. The platform that [our family] has in the film industry today is due to the base that they built.”

The documentary, now in its final stages, promises to be a treasure trove for cinema enthusiasts. It will feature rare footage, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and intimate interviews with those who knew Salim and Javed closely. The source of the documentary's title is a nod to their creation, Amitabh Bachchan’s character in Zanjeer (1973).

Initially envisioned as a theatrical release, the decision to opt for an OTT platform was driven by the sheer volume of content gathered over the years. Zoya Akhtar, Javed Akhtar’s daughter, has been diligently documenting her father and Salim Khan's journey, recognizing the importance of preserving their legacy for posterity.

The documentary, directed by Namrata Rao and co-produced by Salman Khan, Zoya Akhtar, and Farhan Akhtar, is poised to offer a comprehensive look at the lives and work of Salim-Javed. As Arbaaz Khan aptly said, “They have never been documented, be it in books or autobiographies.” ALSO READ: Javed Akhtar's X account hacked, fake tweet posted about Indian Olympics team

Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan buys two floors in Delhi building, where Gauri Khan grew up, for Rs. 37 crores

It is common to see not just Bollywood stars but even their offspring buying expensive properties in prime areas. Aryan Khan, son of superstar Shah Rukh Khan, is the latest to join this bandwagon. As per reports, he has bought a sprawling space in India’s capital, Delhi, for a whopping price.

According to an article in The Economic Times, Aryan has brought two floors in the elite Panchsheel Park locality in South Delhi. He paid Rs. 37 crores to acquire this space. Interestingly, this is the same building where his mother Gauri Khan used to live before her marriage to SRK. The family already owns the basement and ground floor of the building, as per The Economic Times.

The article further states that the property was registered in May 2024 and Aryan paid Rs. 2.64 crores as stamp duty. Further, Gauri Khan has designed the house.

This is probably the first property bought by Aryan Khan. His actor-sister Suhana Khan purchased a 1.5-acre property with three houses in Alibaug for Rs 12.91 crores in June 2023. It was next to Shah Rukh Khan’s sprawling bungalow in the coastal town of Maharashtra. Earlier this year, she bought one more land parcel in Alibaug for more than Rs. 10 crores.

Many celebrities have bought land or bungalows in places like Alibaug, Goa but to see such a high-value transaction in Delhi is rare. The Economic Times article quotes Pradeep Prajapati of boutique real estate consultancy firm Wealthvisory Capital who said that recently, Amitabh Bachchan had also sold his Gulmohar Park property in South Delhi for around Rs. 23 crores.

On the work front, Aryan Khan is shooting for his debut directorial web series, Stardom. The shoot is reportedly over. Lakshya of Kill fame is the leading actor along with Mona Singh and others. Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Bobby Deol, Karan Johar etc. reportedly feature in the show in cameos.

Salman Khan firing case: Non-bailable warrant issued against Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol

A special court in Mumbai has issued a non-bailable warrant against Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, in connection with the firing incident outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan's residence.

The warrant was issued on Friday following a plea by the Mumbai police. Anmol Bishnoi, along with Rohit Godera, an alleged member of the Bishnoi gang, has been named as an absconding accused in the chargesheet filed earlier this month. Bishnoi Gang Linked to Firing Incident The firing incident took place on April 14, 2023, outside Salman Khan's Bandra residence. The actor was not injured in the incident. The Mumbai police has since arrested six people in connection with the case, including the two alleged shooters, Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal.

Lawrence Bishnoi, the alleged mastermind behind the attack, is currently lodged in the Sabarmati Central Prison in Ahmedabad. Anmol Bishnoi and Rohit Godera are believed to be hiding in Canada. Crackdown on Bishnoi Gang The issuance of the non-bailable warrant is a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the Salman Khan firing case. It highlights the efforts of the Mumbai police to crack down on the Bishnoi gang, which has been linked to several high-profile crimes.

The update comes days after a report by India Today quoted the actor saying, “I heard a cracker-like sound. Then, at around 4.55 am, the police bodyguard said that two people on a bike had fired from a weapon at the Galaxy Apartment's first-floor balcony. There had been attempts to hurt me and my family prior to this as well. I have learnt that Lawrence Bishnoi has taken responsibility for the attack from social media. So, I believe that it is the Lawrence Bishnoi gang who have carried out the firing on my balcony,” in the chargesheet.

The actress is currently engrossed in intense action sequences for the film, which is part of the Yash Raj Films' spy universe. As per a report by Mid-Day, sources reveal that Alia is currently filming a particularly brutal and gory action sequence with veteran actor Bobby Deol, who is playing the antagonist in the film.

Alia Bhatt Shoots For Alpha With Bobby Deol  The duo is locked in intense hand-to-hand combat, as well as weapon-based fights, for a scene choreographed by renowned action director Casey O’Neill. For the unversed, O’Neill, known for his work on blockbusters like Jawan, Top Gun: Maverick, and Jack Reacher, brings his expertise to Alpha to create a visually stunning and high-octane action sequence.

A source told the publication, “It is a no-holds-barred set-piece full of blood, gore and brutality, as Alia and Bobby go at each other with weapons as well as hand-to-hand combat. She is dressed in black, with a gun strapped to her thigh, while Bobby sports cropped hair and a salt-and-pepper beard. The makers wanted Casey to design the stunts as he is an expert in advanced stunt technology.” Shoot To Continue For Four Days  The scene is being shot on a heavily guarded set at Film City in Goregaon to maintain secrecy, as producer Aditya Chopra is keen on keeping details under wraps. The source further explained, “This shoot will take over four days. Since it is one of the film’s most important scenes, Adi has ensured that the location is impregnable. They have about 100 guards manning it and covering all vantage points.”

However, Alpha will mark a significant escalation in her action-hero journey.  Sharvari To Join Alia Bhatt After Completion Of Action Sequence Coming back to the report, it also mentioned that Sharvari, who plays Alia Bhatt's sister and fellow undercover agent, will be joining the shooting schedule after the completion of the current action sequence. The film also features Anil Kapoor as a mentor to the two female leads, expanding the YRF spy universe beyond its male-dominated lineup.

Little Thomas marks Anurag Kashyap's return to children's film genre after 17 years; Gulshan Devaiah-Rasika Duggal starrer heads to Indian Film Festival of Melbourne for world premiere

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, known for his globally acclaimed titles such as Gangs of Wasseypur, Ugly and Kennedy, is ready with his next production venture Little Thomas. The film is headlined by two of India's finest actors, Gulshan Devaiah and Rasika Duggal, joined by child artist Hridansh Parekh in the charming comedy drama.

"Yes, it’s been a while. Maybe I was waiting for a good children’s film script to come my way," Kashyap says on why he took 17 years to return to this space after his animated directorial Return of Hanuman (2007). "It’s a difficult genre actually, to make an authentic children’s film, so one has to ensure that it’s a good script before making it," the filmmaker adds.

Little Thomas is set to have its world premiere at the upcoming Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. Besides Kashyap, the film is backed by Ranjan Singh, Rajnikant Oza, Charu Oza, Anushka Shah and Kabir Ahuja.

In Little Thomas, Kashyap was impressed by the vision of the National Award winning director Kaushal Oza, who makes his feature directorial debut with the film that follows the tragi-comic efforts of a seven-year-old boy to bring his parents together and have a little brother.

Kashyap says, "I had seen Kaushal’s short 'The Miniaturist of Junagadh' and liked it. Then I read the Little Thomas script and understood his vision for it. He wanted to make a genuine children’s film while creating a world from a kid’s perspective. The honesty of his approach has helped make the film."

Set in the Goa of the 90s, the film follows Thomas, the only child of his parents, who desperately wants a little brother. "One day, he is told that to get a baby brother his parents will have to kiss. Since his quarrelling parents won't kiss any longer, Little Thomas takes it upon himself to make them do the yucky act!" the film's synopsis reads.

Actor Gulshan Devaiah, who made his debut in Anurag Kashyap's That Girl in Yellow Boots (year) and went on to collaborate with him on projects like Shaitan (2011) and Hunterrr (2015), describes Little Thomas as a film that "puts a smile on my face."

"It’s a sweet, cute film and I am thrilled it’s going to be showing at IFFM. The most special thing about Little Thomas is its story and the beautiful innocence in its world. Rasika is a wonderful actor, who I’ve admired for a while now. She’s very professional and dedicated to the craft. I was lucky I got to work with her," Gulshan says.

Calling Little Thomas "a beautiful and lyrical story" about the simple life of a Goan family, actor Rasika Duggal says, "I was drawn to the script of Little Thomas because I felt it was a beautiful and simple story yet wasn't simplistic. Technology has given us so much to play within filmmaking that sometimes, I feel the soul of a film gets drowned in the razzmatazz. Little Thomas was not doing any of that. It was committing to its narrative without any unnecessary frills. Also, the script had an interesting sense of humour, which I enjoyed very much. I am delighted that the film is premiering at IFFM and it will first be watched by the kind of audience that a festival like IFFM always attracts - a discerning audience with an ample appetite for fun. I am looking forward to how they will respond to our film."

Director Kaushal Oza, an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India says the team auditioned over 700 kids to find Thomas and the gang.

The filmmaker adds, "Everyone has been a seven-year-old once in their lives. When we grow up we miss the innocence of the times we were kids. I wanted to capture the innocence and imagination that we had then and yearned for now. Everyone who read the script loved it, but producing a film like this is a challenge. When this team of producers read the script - they laughed, they cried - they backed it to the hilt. Also casting the kids was the biggest challenge."

Little Thomas is produced by Luminoso Pictures, Civic Studios, Flip Films and Good Bad Films.

Producer Ranjan Singh (Flip Films) recalls reading the script of Little Thomas in 2018, which is also when he decided to produce the film. "It seemed like an authentic children’s film which I have missed over so many years. Also, I had co-produced Kaushal’s short, The Miniaturist of Junagadh, and showed it to Anurag and other producers and it really helped when I took Little Thomas’ script to them."

Anushka Shah, producer, Civic Studios, dubs Little Thomas as a "refreshingly delightful story". She says, "Thomas’ boundless imagination, curiosity and resilience could positively shape children’s mindsets in formative years - an important reason for Civic Studios to back this film. We’re sure Little Thomas will be a heart-warming family watch for children and adults."

Also starring Hridyansh Gokani, Ninad Pandith and Mahabanoo Mody- Kotwal, Little Thomas will have its festival run before its theatrical release in the country.

Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, Rekha, Jeetendra, Priyanka Chopra and Sham Kaushal to also feature in Rakesh Roshan's documentary: Report

After a year of filming, director Shashi Ranjan has finally wrapped up the docu-series chronicling the remarkable journey of the Roshan family in Bollywood. Spanning over four to five episodes, the series promises a captivating exploration of the Roshans' enduring influence on Indian cinema.

According to a report in Mid-day, the narrative takes us back to 1948, when a young and ambitious Roshan (the family patriarch) arrived in Bombay. With his exceptional talent, he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming one of the most successful music composers of his era. We then witness the baton being passed down, with Rakesh Roshan, Roshan's son, establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in both acting and directing.

The docu-series doesn't shy away from the present either. A significant focus is on Hrithik Roshan, the current superstar and grandson of the legendary Roshan. We'll see his meteoric rise to fame, starting with the phenomenal success of his debut film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000). But the series goes beyond just box office triumphs. It delves into the challenges and personal struggles the family has faced, including Rakesh Roshan's battle with throat cancer. This unflinching portrayal promises a well-rounded perspective on their journey.

To capture this multi-faceted story, director Ranjan has spoken extensively with a diverse range of individuals. This includes not only the Roshans themselves, but also their close collaborators and friends. We can expect to hear from veteran actors like Jeetendra and Rekha, who shared the screen with the Roshans in their earlier days. Contemporary superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra also lend their voices.

Furthermore, the series acknowledges the long-standing bond between the Roshans and another of Bollywood's most prominent families – the Kapoors.  It delves into the nitty-gritty of filmmaking as well. Sham Kaushal, a mainstay action director in many of Rakesh Roshan's films, is confirmed to be part of the interviewee list. His perspective will shed light on the creative process behind some of the Roshans' most iconic action sequences.

Roshan Lal Nagrath aka Roshan was born in Gujranwala in present-day Pakistan in 1917. He arrived in Mumbai (then Bombay) and established a career in the Hindi film industry as a music composer. He did a lot of films in the 1950s and 1960s. His son Rakesh Roshan started his career in acting and then turned to filmmaking and continues to make films. His second son Rajesh Roshan is a music composer. Their son Hrithik Roshan is one of the biggest stars of Bollywood. Makeup artist hits back at Anurag Kashyap after the latter slams entourage culture; says, “In his films, he will have to call me to get the dark circles. That’s what his heroines look like”

After Anurag Kashyap set news reports abuzz with his comments as he called out the ‘entourage culture’, makeup artist Shaan Muttathil, who has been working as a hair stylist for Jacqueline Fernandez for years, have hit back at the filmmaker. The makeup artist, who have also styled Radhika Merchant in the past, called out the filmmaker by addressing the de-glam avatars of actors in his films by stating that his actresses wear Rs. 250 worth cotton sarees in his films.

Makeup artist accuses Anurag Kashyap of being jealous

During the Phitte Muh podcast, Shaan slammed Anurag Kashyap by stating that he is jealous of the kind of money makeup artists and other team members of the entourage earn. “What Anurag sir is saying is his world, his bubble. But there's another world too. Will this Anurag sir, after so many hits, go and do a movie for what a newcomer director will do? No. Of course, there’s a lot of jealousy, and I completely understand. Because we do get paid more than managers, than first ADs, and people in the camera department,” he said.

Artist takes a dig at Anurag Kashyap’s non-commercial, de-glam films

Further adding that his films feature women wearing Rs. 250 worth cotton sarees, Shaan went on to criticize the way actors are presented in his films. “Of course, he can lose his s**t when he hears Rs. 1.5 lakh for makeup and hair when his heroines don’t need makeup and hair, I understand. But not everybody gets paid Rs. 1 lakh or Rs. 2 lakh. There are only around 10 of us. First of all, I wouldn’t get a call from him. In his films, he will have to call me to get the dark circles and to make the hair look frizzy. That’s what his heroines look like.”

What Anurag Kashyap said

In a recent interview, Anurag Kashyap described the losses incurred by producers after they have to abide by the star and their entourage’s wishes. The filmmaker touched upon the subject of budget wherein he made shocking revelations about the exorbitant prices charged by an actor’s team which often results in the film going over-budget. He had opened up about it in an interview with Janice Sequeira wherein he said, “Somebody has a chef who charges ₹2 lakh per day to make this strange healthy food. Jo dekh ke lagta tha ye khana hai? Yeh to bird feed hai. Itna chhota sa aata tha (After seeing it, it doesn’t even look like food. It looks so less, like a bird feed)”.

Jacqueline Fernandez sets stage for OTT's biggest dance sequence with 200 background dancers in thriller series Goat: Report

While OTT platforms have become synonymous with gripping narratives and character-driven stories, larger-than-life dance numbers haven't exactly been a defining feature. However, with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's opulent period drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar breaking the mold, a new wave might be upon us. Leading the charge on the digital dance floor is none other than Jacqueline Fernandez.

According to a report in Mid-day, Fernandez is gearing up to set the screen ablaze with a vibrant dance sequence in her upcoming web series, aptly titled Goat. According to sources, the sequence boasts a whopping 200 background dancers, making it a strong contender for the title of biggest dance number ever seen in Indian digital entertainment.

The series, a thriller helmed by director Abhishek Sharma, stars Neil Nitin Mukesh and Siddharth Nigam in pivotal roles. Details about the plot are still under wraps, but the sheer scale of the dance sequence hints at its significance within the narrative.

Sources close to the production revealed that Fernandez filmed the elaborate number over two days at Shiloh Bar in Andheri. To prepare for the high-energy routine, Fernandez went through a rigorous training regime for two weeks under the guidance of choreographer Ruel Varindani.  Varindani has reportedly put together a visually stunning number that blends contemporary and hip-hop styles. The filming location itself required a grand set-up, and the area was cordoned off to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted shoot.

While dance numbers might seem like an unusual addition to the typically character-driven world of OTT shows, insiders suggest this particular sequence plays a crucial role in the story's progression. A source elaborated, stating, "It serves as a turning point in the story, bringing the central characters' journeys to an interesting juncture." BREAKING: Ananya Panday, Neha Sharma have crucial cameos in Bad Newz

The much-awaited film Bad Newz has released today in cinemas and is off to a strong start. This has been possible due to a great response to the trailer and songs, an amusing subject and great casting. The moviegoers who’ll venture out to watch the comic caper will expect some great entertainment from its lead cast – Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk. However, they’ll be surprised to know that two more gorgeous actresses also feature in this film.

It turns out that Ananya Panday has a very crucial cameo in Bad Newz. Her presence gives an interesting addition to the film’s plot. In the opening disclaimers, ‘Thank You Ananya Panday’ is duly mentioned.

And that’s not all. At another crucial juncture, Neha Sharma makes an appearance as well. She looks ravishing and her presence further contributes to the laughter quotient of the film.

Cameos or supporting roles by popular actors usually make a film more exciting. Karan Johar, one of the producers of Bad Newz, has been doing this since his directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). It starred Salman Khan who all of a sudden entered the narrative in the second half of the Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol-Rani Mukerji starrer and surprised the audiences as they had no idea about his presence.

In today’s times, however, it is difficult to hide such special appearances as news often gets leaked to the press. But Ananya Panday and Neha Sharma’s presence in Bad Newz was a well-kept secret and nobody, outside of the film unit, got a hint about it.

Another fun, quirky appearance in the film is that of Gajraj Rao. He hasn’t acted in the film; he plays a dead person and his photo can be seen hanging on the wall. Funnily, ‘Fatherly appearance Gajraj Rao’ is mentioned at the very beginning of the end credits.

Besides all these actors, Bad Newz also stars Neha Dhupia and Sheeba Chadha. It is directed by Anand Tiwari and produced by Karan Johar of Dharma Productions, Anand Tiwari and Amritpal Singh Bindra of Leo Media Collective Pvt Ltd and Manish Menghani of Amazon Prime.

When one more fan also asked about the break, Sarath Chandra Naidu explained in more detail apart from the edit of the first half, director Sukumar is also working on the CGI. He assured the fans that the film is on track and that it’ll release in cinemas on December 6, as scheduled.

Pushpa’s first part, Pushpa: The Rise - Part 01 (2021), released with limited noise but soon became one of the biggest hits in recent times. Allu Arjun’s swag, punchy dialogues, cliff-hanger ending and the chartbuster songs ensured that the film was widely consumed across platforms. Besides Allu, it also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, Anasuya Bharadwaj and Rao Ramesh.

The first part was the story of a poor man who joins the smuggling business of red sandalwood as a coolie and slowly takes control of the entire syndicate. It ended with the protagonist humiliating his arch nemesis, a ruthless cop, and the latter swearing revenge.

Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter to reunite for Dharma Productions’ next with Neeraj Ghaywan: Report

Six years after their Bollywood debut in Shashank Khaitan's Dhadak, Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter are set to share the screen once again. This reunion comes courtesy of Dharma Productions, with National Award-winning director Neeraj Ghaywan at the helm. As per a report in Peeping Moon, the movie is currently in pre-production and is expected to begin filming in Bhopal this October. The film will also star Vishal Jethwa, previously seen in Tiger 3.

The report describes this upcoming project as an “emotional human drama.” The film promises a fresh take for both Kapoor and Khatter. “It's a well-written, ensemble-cast drama that Neeraj Ghaywan has been working on for the past two years,” a source close to the development shared. “Both Janhvi and Ishaan have enormous admiration for the director's work and quickly came aboard the film as it offers them roles that are a complete departure from what they played in Dhadak. They had been itching to collaborate once more since their first movie and are thrilled to have found the perfect reunion recipe in Neeraj's film.”

After his directorial debut with Vicky Kaushal starrer Masaan in 2015, he went on to direct season 2 of Sacred Games and contributed episodes to Made in Heaven Season 2 and Dharma Productions' anthology film Ajeeb Daastaans.

This will mark Janhvi Kapoor’s fifth project with Dharma Productions, following Dhadak, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Mr. and Mrs. Mahi, and the upcoming Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. However, Dostana 2 could have been the sixth addition before it was shelved. Ishaan Khatter, on the other hand, has only worked with Dharma on Dhadak, making this his second project with them. The film also marks a notable transition for television actor Vishal Jethwa, known for his antagonist role in Yash Raj Films' Mardaani 2 and Tiger 3. This will be his first project with Dharma Productions.

On the work front, Janhvi Kapoor will soon be seen in the gripping thriller Ulajh, releasing in theatres on August 2. She also has Devara: Part 1 with Jr. NTR hitting theaters on September 27. Ishaan Khatter, meanwhile, has two Netflix projects on the horizon – an international series titled The Perfect Couple alongside Hollywood stars Nicole Kidman and Dakota Fanning, and a romantic drama series called Royals, co-starring, Bhumi Pednekar. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a partial occupation certificate for the ground-plus-18-floor structure, according to the records.

Rahul and Shetty paid stamp duty of ₹1.20 crore and registration cost of ₹30,000, as per papers.

Vijay Sethupathi on Maharaja, “When I heard the story, I was shaken”

Vijay Sethupathi’s performance in his new Tamil hit in the form of Nithilan Swaminathan’s Maharaja is so tonally correct—he is a father who won’t grieve until justice is served—I cannot imagine how the timorous structure of the storytelling would have worked without him. In the way he internalizes his grief and the raging need for revenge, Sethupathi reminded me of Nicolas Cage in Panos Cosmatos’s Mandy. It is ironical that at a time when Sethupathi’s role model Kamal Haasan is exploring surface-level revenge stories, Sethupathi has gone so deep into the theme that I feared he may lose his way. He didn’t.

Vijay is overjoyed at the success of Maharaja. “Sir, my first Rs. 100 crores film. See, every film I choose like that (to be a success). Some films become a hit like this. Some films connect. Some emotions connect. We choose all the films with so much passion and with so much effort only we do, sir. When this subject came to me, I just loved it. I loved the non-linear writing. That attracted me. Because it was a surprise for me. So, the director said, ‘You listen to the script fully, then only you will enjoy it’. So, I was sitting and listening to the whole story,” he said.

Vijay was hesitant about accepting Maharaja as he had already committed himself to another project with a similar subject. “I was supposed to do one more film like this only,” he said. “So, I said, I already gave my word to one director. So, I told Nithilan, let me check whether if the other director is making that film. If he is then I can't do this film. The other director said, ‘I am not going to do that film’. He said so. Otherwise, it is not right. Because I liked that other script, then only I said okay to him na Sir. Whatever it may be, sir, we just wanted to tell an interesting story with the politically correct ethics. If anything comes, and if it convinces me, I will try to do that film, Sir. But I am not expecting many films Maharaja. I would hope that it happens more often, such films should happen more often. They are a reflection of society in the truest and the rawest sense.”

About the theme of child rape, Vijay admits he was disturbed. “Sir, when I heard the story, I was shaken. How could anyone do this to a child and how can a father cope with such a trauma? But then we actors have to rise above personal emotions. We do it, we just try to understand what are the emotions in the shot. Then we do it, Sir. When I do it, how do I communicate it? Out of expression, out of silence. So, it's just in my mind,” said the actor.

Vijay continued, “I’ve always believed that for an actor, silences always speak louder than words. At least it’s true of me. I always feel the words come in the way of expressing the feelings. I am at my most expressive when I am not speaking. In a forthcoming film Gandhi Talks, I don’t know talk at all. It is a silent film. Actually, when I was telling the third story to the cops, I broke down. The first two times when I was telling the story, I didn't lose control. But third time when I got that image, the tears were real. It was not... This shouldn’t happen to anyone.”

Vijay is all praise for Anurag Kashyap who plays the antagonist. “Sir, he did great job, sir,” he said. “Yes, he did. He actually got injured when he fell down the stairs in the climax. Which means pain was there. But when we did the climax, he was so happy that he got injured. He was saying, ‘Now that I'm crawling, I can use only my one hand. Otherwise, I would have used both my hands.’ So not bothering about your own physical hurt…. Because he's a director, he understands these things. ‘Because I got injured here, so that I can use my only one hand.’ So that way of approach, that's a great thing. It is a great thing.”

He added, “And then in the last minute only, he came up with the dialogue, Sir. Because he kept on changing the dialogue. He rewrites always. He worked very hard. He didn't understand a single word of the dialogues in Tamil. Then I tried to help a little. I understood his difficulty, Sir, when it's time to say Hindi dialogue. I have to read it for a long time. Because it's not my native language. So my breath pattern is not for Hindi. Breath pattern is for my mother tongue. Everybody has it, no? Your breath pattern is based on your language.”

Vijay admits that he feels similar disadvantaged when speaking Hindi dialogues. He said, “If I read my Hindi dialogues 100-200 times, so that I get that breath pattern for saying Hindi dialogue. Suppose if I speak my dialogues in Telugu or Marathi, I’ve to read the dialogues over and over again, so that I get that breath pattern. But Anurag kept on changing the words so he could get the emotion of the scene. It was very difficult. But he did it. He understood it. So being a director, he could understand the script better than a mere actor like me.”

“Because our director Nithilan Swaminathan had so much respect for Anurag Kashyap, what happened was, Nithilan came in the middle of a shot when Anurag was about to fall down the stairs,” he said. “He loved and he respected Anurag sir so much. So, he came in the middle and he said, ‘Don't do this’. But Anurag insisted on doing a real fall. Anurag was very sincere and he was very supportive. Not only Anurag, everybody around me. Combined. Yeah, it's everybody. So when we are in the frame, we have to very cooperative with our co-actors. Otherwise, the energy, the timing won't match. If I just wanted to show myself as an actor .... I want my co-actors, whether they are big or small, I want them to be comfortable. And it works.”

Maharaja, said Vijay, got a delayed release. He revealed, “Sir, we completed Maharaja last year November. We were delayed because of the elections. Release date is most important, Sir. We couldn’t release it with Kalki 2898 AD. We couldn’t release it with bigger films. So, we didn’t get theatres. We've been waiting for release, sir. Four months waiting for the release, sir. Give your best shot. Do your most sincere work. Be the best version of yourself on screen. And then leave the rest to whatever you want to call it. Destiny, God or whatever.”

Vijay’s next? “There is Viduthalai Part 2 is. In a few days we are releasing a new poster. Viduthalai means freedom. We are releasing it October-November. That’s the plan.”

SCOOP: CULT anime film Ramayana: The Legend Of Prince Rama to have a GRAND release in cinemas

Last year saw the release of Adipurush (2023) based on the epic Ramayana. Next year, if all goes well, another film on this subject will be released, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol and Yash. And this year, too, audiences will be treated with a film version of Ramayana, that too, the one which is close to their hearts. As per trade sources, the much-loved anime film Ramayana: The Legend Of Prince Rama is all set to release in theatres this year.

A trade expert told Bollywood Hungama, “Ramayana: The Legend Of Prince Rama has been remastered in 4K by the makers. They felt that releasing the movie in cinemas could be a good idea as it never arrived on the big screen. Moreover, they keep getting a lot of love and positive comments on their social media handles. In fact, after Adipurush disappointed moviegoers, many on social media drew parallels with Ramayana: The Legend Of Prince Rama and shared its clips. This proves that it has a strong recall value and a cult following.”

The source further added, “The makers have begun talks with distributors to understand how wide the release should be and other such strategies.” When asked when the film will be released, the source replied, “The date has not been locked. But they are looking at releasing it either in September or October. A clearer picture will emerge in a few weeks.”

Ramayana: The Legend Of Prince Rama was a co-production between India and Japan and was directed by Koichi Sasaki, Ram Mohan and Yugo Sako. Originally in English, it was later dubbed in Hindi. The latter version was played on the popular kids’ channel Cartoon Network in 2002 as a weekly series and got a huge viewership.

Interestingly, Arun Govil, who played the role of Lord Rama in the classic TV show Ramayan, also voiced the character in Ramayana: The Legend Of Prince Rama. Amrish Puri meanwhile gave the voiceover for Ravana. Acclaimed music director Vanraj Bhatia composed its songs.

Another fascinating trivia was that an alternate English version was released in the USA. It was called Warrior Prince and The Prince of Light: The Legend Of Ramayana and Lord Rama was voiced by none other than Bryan Cranston of 'Breaking Bad' fame. Moreover, the narrator was James Earl Jones, who provided the voice for Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise.

EXCLUSIVE: CBFC censors 27 seconds of kissing across three scenes in Vicky Kaushal-Tripti Dimrii starrer Bad Newz

The comic caper Bad Newz will release this Friday and the excitement for it is tremendous among the moviegoers and trade thanks to its entertaining trailer, fresh cast and chartbuster songs. A few days ago, it was reported that the film had been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). In this report, Bollywood Hungama will inform readers of the cuts enforced on Bad Newz.

As per the cut list, the film hasn't got any audio cut. However, the Examining Committee of the CBFC has censored three scenes, involving two characters kissing. There are three such scenes, one of 9 seconds, the second of 10 seconds and the third of 8 seconds. In all, the CBFC made changes in these three scenes, totalling 27 seconds.

Interestingly, the cut list mentions the 'visual of lip-lock be modified' and also that not a single frame has been cut. It now remains to be seen how the kissing scenes have been 'modified' and viewers will get to know once they see the film.

The other changes asked by the CBFC were very minor like replacing a disclaimer in the beginning, inserting the anti-alcohol static and increasing the font size of the anti-alcohol static.

Once these changes were made, Bad Newz was granted a U/A certificate by the CBFC. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 142 minutes. In other words, Bad Newz is 2 hours and 22 minutes long.

Bad Newz stars Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk with Neha Dhupia in a supporting role. It is directed by Anand Tiwari and produced by Karan Johar of Dharma Productions, Anand Tiwari and Amritpal Singh Bindra of Leo Media Collective Pvt Ltd and Manish Menghani of Amazon Prime. Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat are set to unleash their inner heist masters in the upcoming film Jewel Thief - The Red Sun Chapter. The project, produced by Siddharth Anand and directed by Robbie Grewal, promises a thrilling tale of international intrigue and high-stakes robbery.

According to a report in Mid-day, the film's journey began in Mumbai, where an extensive shooting schedule captured the bustling energy of the city. This initial phase laid the groundwork for the complex heist at the center of the story. Report suggests that Khan and Ahlawat's characters will find themselves on opposite sides of the law, their rivalry fueling the narrative.

Following the Mumbai leg, the production team embarked on a European adventure, taking the story to the picturesque locales of Budapest, Hungary. Khan, Ahlawat, Kunal Kapoor, and Nikita Dutta all joined forces for this international shoot. While Budapest served as the backdrop for some captivating song sequences featuring Khan and Dutta, it also witnessed the filming of thrilling chase sequences.

An inside source revealed, “The final leg began on May 18 as they filmed songs featuring Saif and Nikita against the picturesque locales of Budapest. Some action-packed chase sequences were also canned in the 10-day stint. Robbie has envisioned Jewel Thief as a slick heist thriller, with the leading man sporting a suave look, complete with a ponytail. Saif has also built a chiselled, six-pack physique, for which he has been working out since last year.”

With the international schedule wrapped up in late May, the film nears completion. A brief patchwork shoot will take place in Mumbai next month, focusing on capturing cityscapes and car sequences. The source adds, “It will be only a few days of filming that will include some city and car shots. Robbie is currently neck-deep in post-production and wants to wrap it up by October.”

Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao starrer Stree 2 trailer set for July 18 launch

The trailer for the highly anticipated sequel, Stree 2, is set to be unleashed on Thursday, July 18. The film marks the return of Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana, Pankaj Tripathi and Abhishek Banerjee to the sequel.

The first Stree took audiences on a delightful horror-comedy ride. Set in a small town haunted by a vengeful spirit simply known as "Stree," the film cleverly blended scares with humour, leaving viewers both entertained and a little apprehensive about venturing out after dark. While plot details remain tightly under wraps, the trailer launch promises to shed some light on what awaits us in Stree 2.

The original Stree starred Shraddha Kapoor as a tailor named Stree who stumbles upon the town's secret, Rajkummar Rao as the love interest drawn into the mystery, and Pankaj Tripathi as the resident soothsayer. The film was helmed by Amar Kaushik.
