BREAKING: Chak De India director Shimit Amin to make a COMEBACK with a YRF production!

A list of top 10 or top 5 best sports films of Bollywood is not complete without the mention of Chak De India. Released in 2007, it is still remembered for its taut execution and treatment by director Shimit Amin, and of course for the performances of all, including Shah Rukh Khan. At the box office too, it emerged as huge grosser of the year and made Shimit a force to reckon with. After all, just before Chak De India, he had wowed audiences with the 2004 action thriller Ab Tak Chhappan, starring Nana Patekar. And post Chak De India, he impressed audiences once again with Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Rocket Singh – Salesman Of The Year.

BREAKING Chak De India director Shimit Amin to make a COMEBACK with a YRF production!

Rocket Singh – Salesman Of The Year released in 2009, after which Shimit Amin never made a film again. But if reports are to be believed, he’s all set to make a comeback. A source close to the project says, “Shimit Amin has a script ready and he thinks this is the right time get the film on floors. Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films (YRF), who had backed Chak De India and Rocket Singh – Salesman Of The Year, will be producing this film.”

The source further adds, “Yash Raj Films is completing 50 years in 2020. As part of the celebrations, they’ll be announcing some exciting and big-budget films to mark the occasion. Shimit Amin’s next would be one of those films that’ll be proudly launched by Aditya Chopra and team. They have immense trust in his potential and are extremely happy with his earlier two films with their esteemed banner.”

However, there’s no news on the film’s cast and title. Even the genre is not known. The source tells, “With most directors, one can guess what kind of film it will be since they often operate in one kind of genre. But when it comes to Shimit Amin, you just can’t assume anything. All his three films were drastically diverse. Ab Tak Chhappan was about underworld and Mumbai police. Chak De India dealt with hockey while Rocket Singh – Salesman Of The Year was one-of-its-kind-film on corporate structure. Moreover, YRF have fiercely kept all details under wraps. So it’s next to impossible to find out any more details. What is confirmed, however, is that Shimit Amin’s next with YRF is on.”

Post Rocket Singh – Salesman Of The Year, Shimit Amin was also seen in the capacity of the editor on Mira Nair’s 2013 film The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

No body double for Parineeti Chopra

Parineeti Chopra recently injured her shoulder while training to play badminton champ Saina Nehwal. She is now recuperating, but will soon get back to the game. I connected with Parineeti and she said, “I’ve injured myself training for badminton. I am resting and recuperating.” In the coming weeks, the practice and rehearsals to play Nehwal are going to be rigorous.

No body double for Parineeti Chopra

According to sources, there will be no body double to play the game for Parineeti. “Parineeti will do all the badminton scenes herself. No duplicates. Director Amole Gupte wants the game to look authentic. Parineeti must look convincing on the badminton court or the film will fall flat.”

One of the main reasons why Shraddha Kapoor had to bow out was her inability to look authentic like a seasoned badminton player. A source says Parineeti will also observe Saina Nehwal playing in the badminton court, “To get a hang of the game…the whole problem with Shraddha’s presence in the bio-pic was, she didn’t want to devote enough time to prepare to play Saina Nehwal.”

Exclusive: Riteish Deshmukh reveals why it is difficult for actors to voice their opinion

Films play a huge role in our country and members of the film fraternity, in turn, are influential amongst the mass. In view of the current political distress in the country, members of the film fraternity have always been asked to voice their opinion regarding the same. While some have been vocal about their views, many have chosen to not comment. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, actor Riteish Deshmukh speaks about why it is difficult for actors to voice their opinion.

Exclusive: Riteish Deshmukh reveals why it is difficult for actors to voice their opinion

“Many times, many people are being able to voice their opinion easily. Some even think that putting their opinion out will sometimes bring a positive change and some even think their opinion might be taken in a negative context. So, I think every person takes responsibility for what they say and think about the consequences of what they put out. But I respect each of those actors who actually go out there and give their opinion irrespective of how it is being perceived and yes it is not easy,” Riteish said.

However, Riteish said that only film members are expected to comment and people from other influential industries are not asked for an opinion. “But I have noticed that whatever happens, people ask members of the film industry why they are not giving their opinion on the matter. I have never seen them asking the same to cricketers. Nobody asks for their opinion of the top 10 or 15 cricketers. Cricket and Cinema both are like a religion in this country. It is not an equal playing field for everyone. As far as films are concerned, they seek an opinion and when they get an opinion there are two types of reaction- one section who praise the opinion and the other who abuse them. When they do not get an opinion, both these sections abuse celebrities. So, celebrities get abused irrespective of voicing their opinions or not. Still, some actors want to keep their conscious clear and call out the wrong things and appreciate something when they find it good,” he said.

Riteish Deshmukh had recently posted about the brutal gangrape and murder of a 19-year-old girl. “I post against atrocity. There should not be any link between atrocity and religion when you post your opinion. You should fight against atrocity irrespective of the religion,” the actor said.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Riteish Deshmukh is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Baaghi 3. The film directed by Ahmed Khan also stars Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor.

Riteish Deshmukh hopes to make a film on his father’s life someday; says people have offered him scripts

Riteish Deshmukh is currently gearing up for the release of Ahmed Khan's directorial Baaghi 3. Recently, while interacting with the media, the actor spoke about a film on his late father and former Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Riteish Deshmukh hopes to make a film on his father’s life someday; says people have offered him scripts

It is one of those miraculous journeys of a human being. He started off as a sarpanch (head of Gram Sabha) and went on to become Chief Minister of a state. Many a time, people have written scripts about his life and asked me to make a film but it is not easy," said Riteish.

He said that when a subject is close to your heart, you forget objectivity. Just suppose, I make a film on his life and people say I have shown only the good things about him and not shown the other side of his life. If somebody else makes it, then I will say, 'he wasn't like this, he never used to talk like this and certain things never happened in his life'. So, there will always be a difference in opinions when you make films on such subjects."

However, the actor said that he hopes to make a film on father’s life someday, but it is not on the agenda in the near future.

Meanwhile, Baaghi 3 starring Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor will see Riteish Deshmukh play Tiger's elder brother. The third film of the Baaghi franchise is an official remake of the 2012 Tamil blockbuster Vettai. It is scheduled to be theatrically released in India on March 6, 2020.

Riteish Deshmukh says he wanted to work with Nagraj Manjule even before Sairat released

Riteish Deshmukh says he wanted to work with Nagraj Manjule even before Sairat released

Talking to a tabloid, Riteish said that he was surprised when the role came to him. He said that his and Tiger's character's dynamics is like that of a mother and son. In the film, even though he plays the elder brother, Tiger’s character behaves like a mother to him.

While Riteish Deshmukh does not have action sequences in the film, his film on Shivaji Maharaj will see him in a completely different avatar. The actor is currently working on a trilogy on Shivaji Maharaj which will be directed by Nagraj Manjule. Riteish said that he has wanted to work with Nagraj ever since he watched the filmmaker's debut film Fandry. He said that even Manjule wanted to make a film on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Riteish further said that making a film on Shivaji Maharaj is a big responsibility and that they have to be true to real events and respect the great personality of the Maratha king.

Madhya Pradesh announces three month tax exemption on Taapsee Pannu starrer Thappad

According to reports, a top official of the Commercial Tax department said that film was exempted from tax because of its subject and message. At present, film tickets carry a 9% CGST and 9% SGST. The officials have told single-screen cinemas and multiplexes to not collect SGST on the tickets for Thappad.

The trailer of Thappad directed by Anubhav Sinha has been much appreciated by people. The film is the story of an educated woman who is forced to continue her marriage even after her husband publicly slaps her.

Earlier in January this year, Deepika Padukone's film Chhapaak was declared tax free in Madhya Pradesh even after a section of people called for a boycott of the film after the actress stood in support of the JNU students who were attacked by masked goons.

Malang director Mohit Suri says adults who get influenced by violence are responsible for the consequences

Filmmaker Mohit Suri's recent release Malang is a fictional story about a man Advait who embarks on a killing spree one Christmas night. In an interview with a news portal, the filmmaker said that he is not interested in making violent films for the sake of it and that there is a reason for violence in Malang.

Malang director Mohit Suri says adults who get influenced by violence are responsible for the consequences

Talking about where does one draw one's own line when it comes to peddling violence as entertainment, the director said that he is not intellectually superior to tell people how to live their life. He further said that it is an adult film and so it caters to an audience that has the right to choose to marry or choose to elect their Prime Minister and at the same time decide whether they want to take the substance or be violent.

Mohit Suri further said that every story has its own demand. He said that Malang is a thriller talking about killing people overnight and hence he had to show violence. The Aashiqui 2 director said that as an adult you have the choice to watch or not watch the film or decide to act upon it. He said that as an adult if you decide to watch it and get influenced by it and act upon it then you are responsible for the consequences.

Taking the example of the blockbuster Baahubali: The Beginning, Mohit said that the film was violent. He said that in the climax Prabhas is seen walking with the neck of a person. He said that it was overlooked as it was mythology. HE further said that only an elite section has politicized all these things and that the common public does not look at the film in that manner.

Exclusive: “Rana Daggubati is an absolute team player and has a great sense of story,” says Haathi Mere Saathi actress Shriya Pilgaonkar

Shriya Pilgaonkar is popularly known for her role in the Amazon Prime web series Mirzapur, but has shone in several other projects including a Marathi and other Hindi films. The actress has now set foot in the South film industry with the upcoming multi-lingual film Haathi Mere Saathi. The film titled Aranya in Telugu and Kaadan in Tamil has Rana Daggubati in the lead. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Shriya spoke in length about her role in the film and the impact of such a topical subject on the audience.

Exclusive: “Rana Daggubati is an absolute team player and has a great sense of story,” says Haathi Mere Saathi actress Shriya Pilgaonkar

Shriya who has always wanted to be a part of projects on different platforms and languages, while speaking about landing her first south Indian film said, "When I met the director (Prabhu Solomon) he just showed me a 30-second teaser of what he envisioned for the film. And I instantly knew that I needed to be a part of this film. For me, the whole challenge of doing a trilingual (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi) was very exciting. And more than that, the subject is very close to my heart, because firstly, I absolutely love animals, and the film is releasing at a relevant time because conversations around the environment and sustainable development and coexistence are on. This story is inspired by the elephant corridors in Assam and in North East India and this man who is known as the forest man single-handedly fought for the land which belonged to the elephants. That was the inspiration behind Rana’s character in the film. So, the subject of the film interested me immensely and I really liked the part I was playing and it also so I decided to get on board."

Shriya plays the role of a young news reporter named Arundhati. She stands by Bandev (Rana's character) in his fight for the truth even though there are forces in her agency that don't want her to support the truth.

Further talking about working with Rana, Shriya said, “Rana has really done an extremely inspiring job and has physically transformed himself.  He is an absolute team player and besides being an actor he has a great overall sense of story. He even helped me with the small nuances of getting the language right. So I really enjoyed working with him.”

The film was extensively shot in various real locations instead of shooting in a studio set up. The film was shot in Thailand, Kerala, and Mumbai.

When asked if such films have the power to bring about a change, the actress said, “It always does. And I feel like when we speak of change, change always need not happen at the biggest level and the impact can be seen even if it sparks a discussion.”

“Yes, cinema is meant for entertainment, as well. The films just mirror society; I think it is going to get people to introspect. It is not preachy, you're not trying to tell people what to do, what not to do.  And I feel like cinema as a visual medium has always been very, powerful to affect people, whether positively or negatively. Of course, it depends on the person. I can't say it universally; I can't make a generic statement. But cinema does have that scope of moving people and getting them to introspect," she further said.

Haathi Mere Saathi directed by Prabhu Solomon also stars Pulkit Samrat as the parallel lead. His character is played by Vishnu Vishal in the Telugu and Tamil version. The film is slated to hit the theatres on April 2, 2020.

Mr India 2: After Shekhar Kapur, filmmaker Hansal Mehta questions why directors have no ownership on the film

Ali Abbas Zafar recently announced the film Mr. India and said that he has been working on this dream project silently for quite some time.  However, this news has left the director Shekhar Kapur and Sonam Kapoor miffed.  When the sequel to the film was announced, Shekhar Kapur who directed the original starring Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, and Amrish Puri, called him out on Twitter.

https://www.bollywoodhungama.com/news/bollywood/split-wide-open-boney-kapoor-anil-kapoor-not-page-mr-india/

Shekhar Kapur in his subsequent tweets wrote about directors and their creative rights. In a tweet, he wrote, "We sit with writers from day one, but are not the writer. Help actors hone performances but are not actors. Develop and create a visual language of film. Slave hours over editing consoles. Directors lead and inspire every aspect of a film and have no creative rights? #MrIndia".

Now, replying to Shekhar, filmmaker Hansal Mehta has also taken to the microblogging site to write, "Absolutely. Directors are held responsible for budget overruns. If a film's eventual success or failure is tied to a director why does s/he have no ownership of the film?"

Shekhar Kapur had earlier claimed that the makers were only using the name to get a big opening at the weekend and also mentioned that they cannot make the film without the permission of the original’s makers. In one of his recent tweet, he had even hinted at taking legal action against the makers of the remake. After Shekhar Kapur, even Sonam Kapoor Ahuja took to her Twitter to address the lack of approval from the makers.
