Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa starrer Phule gets postponed, to now release on this date

Ananth Mahadevan’s Phule, based on the life of Jyotirao Phule and his wife Savitri Phule, which was to release this Friday, has been pushed ahead to the end of the month to April 25. Confirming this change of plan, the producer Ritesh Kudecha said, “Yes, the film has been postponed to 25 April. We took the decision this morning.”

All eyes are now on the Sunny Deol starrer Jaat and Gippy Grewal’s Akaal: The Unconquered, both of which open on Thursday, April 10.

For Gippy Garewal’s Akaal, Karan Johar has tied up with Gippy to co-produce an action epic, which stresses valour and nationalism. While the film is bound to whip up a rage in Punjab, it has a certain zest and energy to it which will make it appealing to audiences outside Punjab. Gippy has not so far conquered the territory outside Punjab. With Akaal, he is expected to.

As for Sunny Deol’s Southern sojourn, Jaat is already pre-sold to his audience, which expects Deol to do a Gadar again, but with stylized action pieces. While Sunny excels in the role of a justice broker, he has solid unquestionably crowd pleasing support from Viineet Kumar Siingh and Randeep Hooda.

Viineet, of course, is riding an all-time high after Chhaava. The makers have added him on to Urvashi Rautela in an item song as a token of his Chhaava success. Hooda is in the mood to reverse sides, from the nobility of Veer Savarkar to the mobility of the snarling villain Varadaraja Ranatunga in Jaat.

But make no mistake: Jaat is as much a one-man show as Akaal. Sunny and Gippy…may the best Punjabi win.

Deepika Padukone to play mother or cameo in SRK-Suhana’s King? Sidharth Anand keeps her role a mystery

The buzz surrounding Sidharth Anand’s upcoming directorial King continues to intensify as fresh speculation arises about Deepika Padukone’s role in the much-anticipated action drama. With a stellar ensemble cast including Shah Rukh Khan and his daughter Suhana Khan, King—written by Sujoy Ghosh—has already sparked massive curiosity. Now, all eyes are on what character Deepika Padukone will portray in this cinematic spectacle.

While early reports suggested that Deepika might play Suhana’s on-screen mother, others hinted at a possible cameo. However, according to a Bollywood Hungama exclusive, one thing is certain—Deepika is part of the film. What remains unclear is the nature of her role, which is still under wraps.

A well-placed industry source revealed exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, “Yes, Deepika Padukone is definitely part of King. However, the details of her role are being kept extremely confidential at this point. There have been discussions about her playing Suhana’s mother, but there’s also talk of her having a more surprising and pivotal role that ties deeply into Shah Rukh Khan’s character arc. The makers want to keep the intrigue alive.”

Given Sidharth Anand and Deepika’s successful collaborations in the past—most notably Pathaan and Fighter—her presence in King is expected to be impactful, whether brief or central. The mother-daughter angle with Suhana Khan could lend emotional depth to the story, especially if the film explores themes of legacy, mentorship, or revenge. On the other hand, a stylish cameo could serve as a narrative twist or even set up a larger cinematic universe in Anand’s signature style.

Yet, knowing the creative minds behind the project, it's also entirely possible that Deepika plays a role that defies expectations—perhaps an intelligence officer, an antagonist, or a mysterious figure from Shah Rukh Khan's past. With Sujoy Ghosh’s knack for complex storytelling and Sidharth Anand’s flair for spectacle, nothing is off the table.

Whatever the case, Deepika’s involvement only raises the stakes for King, turning it into one of the most awaited releases on the Bollywood horizon.

After working with Red Chillies Entertainment and Maddock Films, Khyati Madaan turns producer with Not Out Entertainment, teams up with Habib Faisal for debut film

Khyati announces production debut with three diverse films, collaborates with Habib Faisal, a sequel to a hit musical thriller, and a genre-bender “Rom-Hor-Com”

Khyati Madaan, a seasoned film marketer with experience at Red Chillies Entertainment, Disney India, and Maddock Films, has stepped into film production. After a decade of working on campaigns for over 50 films, including Dear Zindagi, Raees, Badla, Kick, Tamasha, Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Jungle Book, and Bhediya—she has launched her own banner, Not Out Entertainment, aiming to back stories that connect with audiences.

Khyati Madaan, an alumna of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), entered the film industry without any prior connections. She first drew attention in 2011, while still a student, by developing a statistical box-office prediction model that accurately forecast the performance of 32 films with 95% accuracy. Producers without industry ties are still relatively uncommon in Bollywood, making her journey a notable one.

Discussing her vision as a producer, Khyati candidly shared, “Bollywood is at an interesting crossroads. Despite having more access to audience feedback and data than ever before, many films are still failing to connect at the box office. As a producer, my ambition is to revive or bring Bollywood’s overlooked genres that audiences genuinely want to enjoy on the big screen. It’s about making storytelling truly democratic again.”

Not Out Entertainment’s initial slate already signals Khyati’s commitment to delivering diverse content with mainstream appeal. First up is a sequel to a hit musical thriller franchise that recently wrapped shooting and is slated for theatrical release this summer. Further details will be officially announced soon.

Khyati has also signed writer-director Habib Faisal, known for Do Dooni Chaar and Ishaqzaade, for her upcoming project. Returning to mainstream cinema, Faisal will helm a slice-of-life drama set in Delhi, echoing the familiar tone of his earlier films. Featuring National Award-winning actors, the film’s title and cast will be announced soon.

Rounding out her debut slate is Abhootpurva (meaning “Unprecedented”), a film that combines elements of tragic romance and horror-comedy—what Khyati playfully calls a “Rom-Hor-Com.” Set in 1990s Agra, the story aims to capture a sense of old-school romantic charm while offering something a little different from the usual. The film is expected to go on floors later this year, with cast and crew details yet to be revealed.

In addition to these three initial films, Not Out Entertainment is currently in the casting stages for two more projects: a controversial biopic and another genre-bending mass-entertainer. They are set to venture into sports content next, starting with the development of an innovative cricket show that promises to offer a fresh perspective beyond the conventional.

Shreya Ghoshal on recovering her X account, “All is well!! Now I am here”

The playback singer’s X account was hacked in February, causing her to lose access to it

Shreya Ghoshal, known for her work as playback singer in recent films like Pushpa 2 - The Rule, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Maharaj, and Laapataa Ladies, has recovered her X account following a hacking incident in February this year.

After spending two months locked out of her account, the singer revealed to her nearly 7 million followers on Sunday that she has finally regained access to her account. “I am back!! I will be talking and writing here often.. Yes, my X account has been in trouble as it got hacked in February. Now I have finally had the help from the @X team after a lot of struggles in establishing proper communication. All is well!! Now I am here," she posted on X.

Shreya had stayed away from the platform since the hacking. In her return post, she advised her fans to beware of false ads misusing her name and AI-generated pictures. “These are click baits, which lead to spam / fraudulent links. Please keep reporting these ads. I have no power in putting them down. I have tried my best,” she wrote.

The singer further urged the X platform to act against these misleading advertisements and emphasised the need to address the core of the issue. “These are X ad regulations, which allow such ads to run. Hope they solve these matters soon."

Last month, Ghoshal shared on Instagram that her X account was hacked on February 13 and she had been working to recover it since. “Hello fans and friends. My Twitter / X account is hacked since February 13th. I have tried every thing in my capacity to reach out to the X team. But there has been no response beyond a few auto generated responses. I am unable to even delete my account since I can't log in any more. Please don't click on any link or believe any message written from that account. They are all spams and fishing links. I will update personally through a video if the account is recovered and is safe,” she added.

Laapataa Ladies writer Biplab Goswami SLAMS plagiarism claims, shares proof of originality: “The story, the dialogues, the characters, and the scenes all stem from years of research and honest reflection”

Biplab Goswami, the screenwriter behind the acclaimed Bollywood film Laapataa Ladies, has firmly denied allegations of plagiarism that have recently cast a shadow over the movie’s reputation. Responding to claims that the film bears striking similarities to the 2019 Arabic short film Burqa City, Goswami presented documented proof of his script’s originality, asserting that the story was conceived and registered years before the controversy emerged.

The Kiran Rao-directed Laapataa Ladies, which was India’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars, has been under scrutiny after social media users pointed out parallels between its plot and that of Burqa City. Both stories revolve around mistaken identities due to veiled attire—ghunghats in the Indian film and burqas in the Arabic short—leading to accusations that the former borrowed heavily from the latter. The debate intensified earlier this week, with some netizens labeling the film as unoriginal and questioning its credibility as an Oscar contender.

In a detailed statement shared on social media, Goswami addressed the accusations head-on. “Our story, characters, and dialogues are 100% original,” he wrote. “The screenplay for Laapataa Ladies was developed over many years, with a detailed synopsis registered under the working title Two Brides with the Screenwriters Association on July 3, 2014—well before Burqa City was released in 2019.” To bolster his defense, he released registration documents as evidence, emphasizing that the narrative stemmed from extensive research into gender dynamics and rural Indian life.

Goswami argued that the concept of mistaken identities due to veils is a timeless storytelling trope, used by literary giants like Shakespeare and Tagore, and not exclusive to any single work. “The allegations of plagiarism are baseless,” he continued. “They undermine not just my efforts as a writer but the hard work of the entire team that brought this film to life.” He highlighted the unique characters, setting, and social commentary in Laapataa Ladies as distinct from any supposed inspiration.

The controversy has stirred mixed reactions online. While some fans have rallied behind Goswami, praising the film’s heartfelt execution and cultural resonance, others remain skeptical, pointing to specific scenes—like a police station sequence—that echo moments in Burqa City. This isn’t the first time Laapataa Ladies has faced such claims; last year, filmmaker Ananth Mahadevan suggested its premise resembled his 1999 telefilm Ghunghat Ke Pat Khol. However, no official response from director Kiran Rao or producer Aamir Khan has been issued regarding the latest allegations.

Released in March 2024, Laapataa Ladies earned widespread acclaim for its blend of humor and poignant social critique, securing 10 awards at the IIFA 2025. Despite failing to make the Oscar shortlist, the film—produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Kindling Pictures, and Jio Studios—continues to be celebrated for its performances by Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, and Sparsh Shrivastav.

EXCLUSIVE: Fans meet Salman Khan post Sikandar’s debacle; request the star to work with Kabir Khan and Ali Abbas Zafar

Exactly a week ago, Salman Khan’s much-awaited film Sikandar was released and it failed to meet the expectations of most viewers. Instead of defending the star’s choices, his huge fan base began voicing their displeasure about Sikandar and Salman Khan’s recent choice of films. They began making various trends on X (formerly Twitter), hoping that Salman Khan would pay attention to them. And as luck would have it, Salman Khan found out about the fan’s woes. A meeting took place yesterday, on April 5, where some fans were able to meet the superstar.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The meeting was attended by Salman Khan, his manager Jordy Patel, business head Vikram Tanwar and fans. The fans openly voiced their displeasure about Sikandar and that his other recent films have not been up to the mark. They also showed their trends on X and how they have been incessantly tweeting as they care for him big time and want him to make better choices.”

The source added, “Salman was moved by the love and care from his fans. He confessed that from the nascent stage, he felt something was off about Sikandar and that it was not the way a big film should be made. However, he promised that he would now do films that would make his fans happy.”

The source continued, “Regarding Sikandar, the fans complained that not just content but even the marketing was below par. They confessed that when they complained to Sajid Nadiadwala’s team about the film being leaked on the day of release, the fans got a feeling that the producer’s team didn’t take it very seriously. The fans were also upset with the insulting tweets made by Warda Nadiadwala to the fans. Screenshots of the tweets were shown to Salman.”

The source further stated, “The fans requested Salman Khan to do films with credible directors like Kabir Khan and Ali Abbas Zafar, who have given blockbusters to Salman in the past and with whom the star has a very good bond. They further requested that, just like Pooja Dadlani acts as a bridge between Shah Rukh Khan and his fans, Salman Khan should also have someone proactive in his team to keep him informed about fan messages and feedback. This person should also be available to pass on the message of Salman to the fans.”

The source signed off by saying, “Salman Khan promised to take all these aspects into consideration. The meeting lasted for an hour. It's unprecedented to see a star of this stature meeting the fans in this manner and listening to their woes. Yet again, Salman Khan proves that he’s a one-of-a-kind star. With this correct approach, there’s no doubt that he’s going to bounce back with a bang. It's only a matter of time.”

Jacqueline Fernandez grieves the demise of her mother Kim Fernandez after she passes away in Mumbai

In heartbreaking news from the world of entertainment, actress Jacqueline Fernandez’s mother, Kim Fernandez, passed away on Sunday after a brief period of hospitalization. She had been undergoing treatment at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra following a severe stroke in March. While several media outlets have confirmed the sad demise, the Fernandez family is yet to issue an official statement.

Kim Fernandez had been battling serious health complications since the stroke that occurred during the last week of March. She was urgently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Lilavati Hospital, where she had remained under close medical supervision. In light of her mother’s deteriorating condition, Jacqueline had opted out of a scheduled IPL performance in Guwahati, ahead of the match between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, to be by her side. At the time, a source close to the actress was quoted in a report by Hindustan Times, saying, “Jacqueline's mother is still in the ICU and recovering, as the family waits for updates from the doctors. During this difficult time, Jacqueline has chosen to stay by her mother's side and will unfortunately miss the IPL performance.”

Known to be extremely close to her mother, Jacqueline has often credited Kim Fernandez for being her emotional anchor and support system. The two shared a strong bond, and Jacqueline has previously spoken about the influence her mother has had on her life and career. The actress, who is usually active on social platforms, has understandably stayed away from public interactions in the past few weeks as she is believed to be spending time with her family during this challenging time.

Further details regarding the final rites and any public statement from Jacqueline or her representatives are still awaited.

We at Bollywood Hungama, offer our heartfelt condolences to Jacqueline Fernandez and her family.

Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi to shoot new songs for Bhool Chuk Maaf: Report

To amp up the entertainment quotient of their upcoming comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf, the makers have decided to add two brand-new songs to the film’s soundtrack. Starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, the time-loop wedding comedy is now set to hit theatres on May 9, instead of its original April 10 release date.

New Songs to Add Energy & Charm According to a report by Mid-Day, director Karan Sharma and producer Dinesh Vijan felt that adding two more songs would enhance the mass appeal and musical energy of the film, which follows Rajkummar Rao’s character reliving the same day—his wedding eve—over and over again.

A source close to the production revealed: “Of the two songs, Rajkummar and Wamiqa filmed one on March 29 at a studio in Mira Road. A set replicating a small-town street was constructed for this upbeat number.” This track is being described as a vibrant, peppy promotional song composed by Tanishk Bagchi, with choreography by Vijay Ganguly and styling by Sheetal Sharma. Romance in Varanasi: Second Song Set for Mid-April Shoot The team is currently prepping for the second song, which will be shot in Varanasi, the film’s primary setting. Slated to be filmed in mid-April, this track will have a “romantic bachelorette party” vibe, perfectly complementing the wedding theme of the story. The chemistry between Rajkummar and Wamiqa is expected to be a highlight of the sequence. Why the Release Was Postponed The update on these additional songs comes just days after the announcement that Bhool Chuk Maaf had been postponed to May 9. Initially scheduled for release on April 10, the makers decided to delay the film to avoid a clash with a crowded release calendar. As reported by Bollywood Hungama, the original release week featured films like Sunny Deol’s Jaat and Phule, Salman Khan’s Sikandar (March 30), Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2 (April 18), and Emraan Hashmi’s Ground Zero (April 25).

Salman Khan starrer Sikandar packs inflatable theatre with 110 kids in Jammu and Kashmir

Picture this: snow-capped mountains, pristine valleys, and over 100 school kids enjoying a Salman Khan film in an inflatable theatre. That's exactly what happened on Friday when the megastar's latest Eid release, Sikandar witnessed a packed screening at Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir.

The special screening of the film, co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, was held at PictureTime Digiplex in Kishtwar, located in the Chenab Valley. Set up in 2023 by PictureTime—a pioneering mobile digital movie theatre company (with three patents to its credit)—the inflatable cinema saw tremendous response to Sikandar, thanks to Khan's humongous popularity in the region.

110 kids, accompanied by 11 teachers, watched the 11 AM show of the AR Murugadoss directorial— which continuously reverberated with the sound of their hooting and clapping as they cheered for their favorite 'bhai jaan'. "Salman Khan enjoys an enormous fan following across the country, and Jammu & Kashmir is no exception—his popularity among children here is truly heartwarming. Watching the joy and excitement on the faces of school kids in Kishtwar as they experienced Sikandar was incredibly rewarding," Sushil Chaudhary, Founder & CEO, Picturetime said.

Chaudhary said the kids were reacting to all the high points in Sikandar, making the screening a huge success as the team delivered on their mission to bring cinema to the "remotest corners of India through our state-of-the-art inflatable digital theatres."

"We recently saw a similar reaction to Vikram's Veera Dheera Sooran, which was inaugurated in Tamil Nadu's first inflatable digital theatre in Bommidi. Moments like these reaffirm our belief that cinema should be accessible to everyone, regardless of geography. It’s about bridging the entertainment gap, and making the magic of movies available—whether you’re in a metro or a small town nestled in the mountains," he added.

Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Sikandar also stars Sathyaraj, Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, and Prateik Babbar, among others.

REVEALED: In Ganga Ram, Salman Khan to play a character named Ganga, Sanjay Dutt to essay the role of Ram

A few days ago, Bollywood Hungama broke the news that Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt are expected to be seen in a film called Ganga Ram. As expected, the news broke the internet and spread like wild fire. Now, we bring to you another piece of information about this upcoming movie.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “After the Ganga Ram news came out, many began to wonder if Ganga Ram is the name of one person. Fans speculated that either Salman Khan or Sanjay Dutt will be playing Ganga Ram.”

The source continued, “But that’s not the case. Ganga and Ram are the names of two principal characters. While Salman Khan will essay the role of a character named Ganga, Sanjay Dutt will reprise the role of a man named Ram.”

The source also revealed, “Ganga Ram is mounted as a wholesome entertainer and will have lots of action. The makers are trying to ensure that the audience gets its money’s worth when they come to see this film starring two macho stars of Bollywood.”

The film will be produced by Salman Khan Films and directed by debutant Krish Ahir, who has been an associate on multiple films produced by Salman Khan over the last 5 years. During the promotions of the grand Eid release, Sikandar, Salman Khan hinted that he would be doing a film with Sanju.

Last weekend, at the trailer launch of The Bhootnii, Sanjay Dutt also confirmed his reunion with Salman Khan saying, “Yes, Salman and I are indeed working together. We both are brothers and we are coming together. You all have seen us in Saajan (1991) and in Chal Mere Bhai (2000). Ab dono mein tashan dekh lijiye! It’s an action film and I am very excited and happy that I’ll work with my chhota bhai after 25 long years.”

EXCLUSIVE: Gulshan Devaiah on why Afsos 2 never happened: “I don’t think it did well enough for Amazon”; opens up on Anurag Kashyap's criticism about OTT giants: “In principle, I do agree with him but…”

Gulshan Devaiah’s Hunterrr (2015) was re-released recently in cinemas. While speaking about it exclusively with Bollywood Hungama, we asked him about his quirky thrilling show Afsos (2020). There’s a trend of a web series having multiple seasons but Afsos never had a Season 2.

When asked about it, Gulshan Devaiah revealed, “When the show was written, I was signed for 3 seasons. That’s a general rule of thumb that a lot of people follow. I don’t think it did well enough for Amazon. Also, it was not an Amazon original; if it was, it might have had a Season 2. It was not as heavily promoted as Amazon does for its originals. Tell me about it; I did Dahaad. They promote and how! Hence, I don’t think it got the kind of promotion that would have helped it.”

Gulshan continued, “Nevertheless, it has its own fan base. It ends at a very interesting point. You don’t know if he is Chiranjeevi.”

He also added, “These are things you have to accept. It’s part and parcel of an actor’s life. I am not blaming Amazon. I am sure that they have their policies and their budgetary allocations. They can’t break their protocols.”

A few weeks back, Anurag Kashyap blasted streaming executives for not giving creative freedom to show creators as they do in the West. Does Gulshan Devaiah agree with this notion?

He explained, “I don’t want to be the guy who complains. But at the same time, I always felt that we could do better, since the beginning. There will be restrictions. India is a different country. It’s a very complex nation. It’s so diverse. There are things which bind us together and there are things which also break us apart. The fact that we are still together is a miracle! Hence, it will always be challenging for storytellers to say what you can and what you cannot say. Freedom of speech can never be absolute; there are terms and conditions. Sometimes, you have to fight and swim against the flow. At times, you have to find creative ways to still tell your story.”

He further stated, “In principle, I do agree with him. I don’t agree with the accusations that he’s making as I don’t know (about it fully) as I am not a creator. I have never been in that kind of discussion about scripts. I only discuss contracts. But I do feel we can do better, especially in terms of storytelling. There are so many millions of rooted stories we can tell from India alone.”

SCOOP: Akshay Kumar refused Mrighdeep Singh Lamba's high-concept comedy due to snake connect

Kartik Aaryan and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba are teaming up for the first time on a feature film produced by Karan Johar and Mahaveer Jain. The film is touted to be a one-of-a-kind high-concept comedy with a snake as the antagonist. On doing the research, Bollywood Hungama has exclusively learnt that the Mrighdeep Singh Lamba directorial was initially offered to Akshay Kumar.

A source told Bollywood Hungama on confidentiality, "Akshay Kumar was the first choice for director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba's next. He was in the discussion for a while now, however, he eventually backed out. He was not convinced with the conflict of snake vs human, and didn't want to venture into this genre again after Jaani Dushman."

Mahaveer Jain and Karan Johar had multiple rounds of meetings with Akshay, and when he finally backed off, they decided to reset the project with Kartik Aaryan in the lead. "Kartik loved the idea of man vs snake and instantly signed on for the film. He feels this is another winner under his kitty after Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3, as the supernatural elements are the flavor of the season for the big screen," the source shared.

The snake comedy is all set to go on floors in October 2025 and release in the second half of 2026.

Chhorii 2 trailer out: Nushrratt Bharuccha and Soha Ali Khan starrer promises darker and intense fight of a mother, watch

Prime Video today unveiled the spine-chilling trailer of Chhorii 2, the highly anticipated sequel of its 2021 Original horror film, Chhorii. Expanding the twisted world of its predecessor, which was celebrated for its suspenseful storytelling deeply rooted in folklore, this new chapter plunges even deeper into folkloric horror, supernatural terror, and the unbreakable will of a mother fighting against forces beyond comprehension. A T-Series, Abundantia Entertainment, Psych, and Tamarisk Lane Production, the horror film is helmed by Vishal Furia, and it brings back Nushrratt Bharuccha as Sakshi, joined by Soha Ali Khan in a pivotal role, alongside an ensemble cast featuring Gashmeer Mahajani, Saurabh Goyal, Pallavi Ajay, Kuldeep Sareen, and Hardika Sharma. Chhorii 2 is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video in India and across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on 11th April 2025.

Set in the unexplored realm of underground caves, the trailer of Chhorii 2 pulls viewers back into Sakshi’s haunting world, now even darker, deadlier, and more perilous. Haunting rituals, ghostly figures, and unsettling folklore build an atmosphere thick with dread as she confronts malevolent supernatural forces to protect her daughter, Ishani. Soha Ali Khan’s mysterious, ‘Daasi Ma’ character only adds to the tension. Beneath the scares, the trailer reveals an emotional survival story, a mother’s unyielding fight against evil, promising a chilling, more intense chapter filled with deeper fears and unexpected twists.

Speaking about stepping back into Sakshi’s world, Nushrratt Bharuccha shared, “Returning as Sakshi in Chhorii 2 has been one of the most intense yet rewarding experiences of my career. After 7 years of tirelessly protecting her child, Sakshi’s deepest fear comes true, which adds a whole new level of emotion and intensity to the narrative. The horror in this installment feels darker, more powerful, and very real because it taps into a mother’s worst nightmare. Vishal has masterfully woven spine-chilling moments with raw emotions making the story a gripping blend of survival, love, and the lengths a mother will go to protect her child."

Soha Ali Khan, who joins the Chhorii franchise, added, “Joining the talented cast of Chhorii 2 and stepping into such a compelling role was a thrilling new challenge for me. What drew me to the film was how it mixes unsettling, atmospheric horror with folklore that feels so rooted in our culture. My character is layered — there’s menace but also mystery. She’s not someone you can easily predict, which made her a fascinating character to portray on screen. Vishal has crafted a world where fear creeps in from all sides, and being a part of it allowed me to explore a completely new side of myself as an actor."

Sharing insights about the film’s premise, director Vishal Furia highlighted, “With Chhorii 2, we didn’t just want to make a sequel – we wanted to amplify everything that made the first film so haunting and emotionally powerful. The world of Chhorii expands in this chapter; the folklore runs deeper, and the evil Sakshi faces feels more personal and dangerous. We’ve introduced new characters, fresh subplots, and unexpected twists, all while staying true to the rooted backdrop that gives the story its unique authenticity. At the heart of it, Chhorii 2 is about a mother’s relentless fight against something that is all pervasive, and that is where the real terror lies."

Vikram Malhotra, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Abundantia Entertainment, said, "With Chhorii 2, we build upon the success of the first film, taking the franchise to new heights. As part of our commitment to genre-driven storytelling, this film is a key addition to our content library, dedicated to horror and paranormal narratives. Chhorii 2 is a perfect example of how the horror genre can tap into deep fears, challenge perceptions, and offer an immersive entertainment experience that truly connects with audiences. It remains our endeavour to bring such impactful stories to life, and we, along with our long-standing partners Prime Video, are excited to offer viewers across the globe another unforgettable chapter in the Chhorii universe."

Reflecting on his globe-trotting life, Vir says: “I’ve had a strange life that took me across the world more than anyone I know. I don’t know how one ends up being the Indian kid in Nigeria, the African kid in boarding school, the boarding school kid in Delhi Public School, the Delhi kid in Galesburg, Illinois, the Chicago guy in Alabama, the America-return in Mumbai, the Bollywood guy in comedy, the stand-up comedy guy in Bollywood, the Bollywood guy in Indie Music, and the Indian in American comedy. All I know is, when you are blessed enough to step into all those worlds, you write a book about it. I hope to take you across the world through the eyes of a fortunate fool.”

Shiv Sena and MNS raise objections to the return of Fawad Khan to Indian cinema with Abir Gulaal

Fawad Khan returning to Bollywood with Abir Gulaal has drawn reactions from political parties in Maharashtra, particularly the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Shiv Sena. The upcoming film, also starring Vaani Kapoor, recently unveiled its trailer, bringing the Pakistani actor back to the Indian film industry after nearly a decade. The ban on Pakistani artists in Indian films has been in place since 2016. While the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition regarding the ban in 2023, tensions regarding their involvement in Bollywood remain.

Reacting to the trailer of Abir Gulaal, MNS leader Ameya Khopkar expressed the party’s opposition to the film’s release in Maharashtra. "We only learned about this film's release today when the makers announced it. But we are making it clear that we will not allow this film to release in Maharashtra because it features a Pakistani actor. Under no circumstances will we permit such films to be released in the state. We are gathering more information about the film and will soon issue a full statement," Khopkar told Dainik Bhaskar.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam (from Eknath Shinde faction) also addressed the issue, emphasizing the general sentiment towards Pakistani artists in India. Speaking to ETimes, he shared, "There is widespread hatred for Pakistan in India. When a film from Pakistan is released, Indian audiences do not prefer watching it. Even if a few people watch it out of curiosity, Pakistani artists have never been able to gain widespread success in India. If the central government has a policy on this, it should be implemented. The decision on whether Pakistani films should be released in India or if their artists should be allowed to work here must be made by the government."

The controversy surrounding Fawad Khan’s return highlights the ongoing debate over cultural exchanges between India and Pakistan, with political parties and industry stakeholders holding differing views. Meanwhile, Abir Gulaal is a romantic drama that is scheduled hit cinemas on May 9, 2025. It remains to be seen whether if these objections will impact the release of the entertainer.

Fatima Sana Shaikh reveals her casting couch experience in the South; says, “Casting director kept asking if I would ‘do anything’ for the role”

Fatima Sana Shaikh has once again ignited a crucial conversation on the existence of casting couch in the film industry. In a clip from an older interaction, that has recently surfaced on social media, the Dangal actress candidly spoke about her experiences in the South Indian film industry, revealing how certain filmmakers and producers exploit aspiring actors under the guise of offering roles.

“There was some casting happening in the South and I sent my profile. After he received it, he asked, ‘If I was ready to do anything’ and I responded on message saying that ‘I will be working hard and whatever is required for the role’, I will do that. But he kept repeating the same thing – ‘You can do anything for your casting’—again and again. I was playing dumb. I was getting irritated but I also wanted to see how long he would continue. Eventually, he too got irritated and left it there,” she shared.

Fatima further revealed the harsh realities of navigating the industry, highlighting how many aspiring actors, especially women, are often placed in uncomfortable situations. “When I was in South, there were a lot of small-time producers. At that point of time, we would think, ‘You will get a chance in Bollywood after establishing yourself in the South industry.’ There used to be so many ways to approach this. We were in a room where the producers would openly state that you would get a chance there only when ‘you meet people’ and things like that. They would not address it (casting couch) directly but would speak in a vague manner, but they would ask you to ‘do things’ for a role.”

But you can’t help it, wherever there is power….”

As Fatima Sana Shaikh’s statements continue to gain traction, her courage in addressing the issue publicly has once again put a spotlight on the long-standing problem of exploitation in the film industry.

Sikandar’s shows CANCELLED in several cinemas; replaced with All The Best Pandya, L2 Empuraan, The Diplomat; Gaiety-Galaxy INCREASES shows due to INSANE public demand

The Salman Khan-starrer Sikandar has failed to entice the viewers as intended. The word of mouth is very poor and though there was growth on the second day of release, the trend has made it clear that the film will suffer a fall once the holiday season gets over. Realizing this aspect, the theatres have begun to reduce the showcasing of Sikandar and replace its shows with successful holdover releases.

There were reports that Sikandar’s shows were being cancelled due to no audience. A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “We didn’t find any instance of the show getting cancelled in Mumbai. There were shows where the number of viewers was in single digits but on the first two days, no show got cancelled due to no audience. However, the same happened in Surat, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Indore etc., especially in areas where there was little or no Eid effect.”

Kiritbhai T Vaghasia, who runs The Friday Cinema multiplex in Surat, said, “Not a single ticket was sold for the 9:00 am and 10:00 am shows on Monday. I was hoping there would be more audience for this film on Eid. Instead, we sold more tickets on Sunday, the day of the release. I guess the word of mouth spread faster, resulting in such dismal numbers on Monday.”

Due to such a response to Sikandar in his cinema hall, he had to reduce the number of shows of Sikandar. Kirtibhai revealed, “I replaced two-night shows with All The Best Pandya and Umbarro. Both these Gujarati films are getting decent footfalls. Surprisingly, Umbarro is in its ninth week and is still attracting an audience.”

All The Best Pandya, which was released on March 14, has been running successfully across Gujarat and also Mumbai. In Inox Raghuleela Kandivali in Mumbai, Sikandar’s 9:30 pm show has been replaced from April 1 with the Gujarati movie. From April 2, the cinema hall has removed 5:30 pm of the Salman Khan film and will play Umbarro instead.

Mohanlal’s L2 Empuraan is also getting steady footfalls in several cinemas. In Cinepolis Seawoods and PVR Orion Mall Panvel, the 9:40 pm and 5:30 pm shows of Sikandar were axed and replaced with this Malayalam film. Meanwhile, in South Mumbai’s elite Inox Nariman Point and Metro Inox, the John Abraham-starrer The Diplomat will be played at 8:00 pm and 8:30 pm respectively instead of Sikandar.

Amid all these cancellations and replacements, Mumbai’s iconic Gaiety-Galaxy or G7 multiplex stands as an exception. Since Sunday, March 30, Sikandar has been playing in its two biggest cinema halls – the 991-seater Gaiety and 818-seater Galaxy. From March 31, the Salman Khan-starrer’s shows were also accommodated in the 105-seater Gossip. L2 Empuraan’s Hindi version was earlier playing in both Gossip as well as the 255-seater Gemini. The Mohanlal film will now be showcased only in Gemini.

Despite so many shows, Sikandar still managed to run house-full on the day of Eid in this cinema complex. Salman Khan’s films have always worked big time in Gaiety-Galaxy but for Sikandar to do so well, despite its underperformance in other areas, once again indicates that Salman Khan’s stardom is intact, especially among the mass audience.

Krissann Barretto reveals losing work after speaking on Sushant Singh Rajput’s death: “No one is so stupid to risk their life for fame”

Sasural Simar Ka fame Television actress Krissann Barretto shared the heavy toll she paid for speaking out about the death of her close friend, the late Sushant Singh Rajput. During an emotional conversation on Shardul Pandit’s podcast Uncensored with Shardul, the 33-year-old actress disclosed how her decision to address Sushant’s passing led to significant professional setbacks and personal struggles.

The Emotional Cost of Loyalty Krissann Barretto’s bond with Sushant Singh Rajput dates back to their days in the television industry, where they forged a deep friendship. Following Sushant’s tragic death by suicide on June 14, 2020, at his Mumbai residence, Krissann was among the few who publicly expressed their grief and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding his passing. However, what she perceived as an act of loyalty to her friend turned into a nightmare.

“In India, if you’re an actor, you can’t grieve,” Krissann said on the podcast. “If your friend passes away, people assume you’re posting for attention. Just because you’re in front of a camera, they think you’re performing.” She highlighted the harsh scrutiny actors face, where genuine emotions are often dismissed as publicity stunts. For Krissann, speaking about Sushant wasn’t about fame—it was about standing up for someone she cared about deeply. Professional Backlash: Denied Work by Production Houses The repercussions of her outspokenness were swift and severe. Krissann revealed that several production houses refused to work with her after she addressed Sushant’s death publicly. “I was denied work,” she admitted, adding that the decision to speak out came with risks she knowingly took. “I lost a lot and gained nothing. I did it for my friend, not for fame.” Despite the heavy price she paid—both emotionally and professionally—Krissann Barretto harbors no regrets. “No one is so stupid to risk their life for fame,” she asserted, dismissing claims that her actions were motivated by self-interest. Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death: A Case That Shook the Nation Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise at the age of 34 sent shockwaves through India, sparking widespread debates about mental health, nepotism, and alleged foul play. The MS Dhoni: The Untold Story star transitioned from television to Bollywood, leaving a legacy of remarkable performances. Vidyut Jammwal supports Kunal Kamra, calls out Kamaal R Khan for ‘taking refuge but spewing venom against the country’

Actor Vidyut Jammwal has voiced his support for stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, who recently faced legal action over his satirical remarks about Maharashtra’s political situation. Taking to social media, Jammwal shared a thought-provoking post referencing the Bhagavad Gita and questioning the selective outrage against comedians while figures like Kamaal R Khan (KRK), known for his derogatory remarks about India and women, continue unchecked.

Along with sharing a video featuring Kunal Kamra and some unfavourable comments made by Kamaal R Khan in the past, Vidyut Jammwal wrote: “GITA CHAPTER 2 VERSE 31 - “स्वधर्ममपि चावेक्ष्य न विकम्पितुमर्हसि। धर्म्याद्धि युद्धाच्छ्रेयोऽन्यत् क्षत्रियस्य न विद्यते॥” MEANING - Kshatriya, you should not waver, for there is nothing more auspicious for a warrior than a “RIGHTEOUS WAR.” Here is man, taking refuge out of the country, drawing attention by spewing venom against the country and even worse, our women. No one stops to question his intent or mobilises to bring him down. But we will take a stand up comedian to task- for evoking strong emotions because of his act. Do we uphold the rights of Politicians over our Nation and our Women?”

The post gained significant traction, with several celebrities rallying behind Jammwal’s stance. Producer Ektaa R Kapoor commented, “Those who follow him enable him! Good on uuuuuuuu for calling him out.” Singer Mansi Scott wrote, “Well said Vidyut Jammwal,” while actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee responded with hands-up emojis. Actress Richa Chadha, who has previously taken legal action against KRK, remarked, “I took him to court. Why can't others?”

A post shared by Vidyut Jammwal (@mevidyutjammwal)

The controversy began when Kunal Kamra performed a parody song at Mumbai’s Habitat Comedy Club, referring to an unnamed politician as a ‘gaddar’ (traitor). Although no names were mentioned, members of the Shiv Sena took offense, interpreting it as an insult to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Subsequently, legal action was taken against Kamra, sparking a debate over freedom of speech.

Jammwal’s post, followed by the growing support from other celebrities, has reignited discussions on selective accountability, questioning why figures like Kamaal R Khan continue to make inflammatory statements without facing similar repercussions.

Amrita Arora Ladak testifies in 2012 hotel brawl case involving Saif Ali Khan

Actress Amrita Arora Ladak recently testified as a witness in the ongoing case against actor Saif Ali Khan, her husband Shakeel Ladak, and their friend Bilal Amrohi. The case pertains to a 2012 altercation at a five-star hotel, where businessman Iqbal Sharma accused the trio of assaulting him and his brother-in-law, Raman Patel.

Speaking to NDTV, Amrita detailed the events of that night, asserting that the incident began when an unknown individual aggressively confronted their group. “We saw someone barging into our enclosure and, in a very loud, aggressive voice, told us to shut up and keep quiet. We all got shocked at what was happening,” she stated. Amrita further claimed that Saif Ali Khan responded to the situation with an apology, standing up immediately to diffuse the tension.

The altercation reportedly involved Sharma accusing Saif and his friends of behaving aggressively and abusing him. He further alleged that the actor punched him, breaking his nose, and also attacked his brother-in-law Raman Patel. The businessman lodged a police complaint soon after the incident, leading to charges of assault and criminal intimidation against Saif and his associates.

However, Saif Ali Khan has consistently maintained that he acted in self-defence. According to him, the altercation escalated only after Sharma allegedly made derogatory remarks about the women in the group, which included Kareena Kapoor Khan, Malaika Arora, and Amrita Arora. The actor claimed that Sharma’s comments were offensive, and he responded in their defense.

The case has been ongoing for over a decade, with multiple court hearings. Amrita’s testimony supports Saif’s version of events, emphasizing that the situation began with Sharma’s aggressive approach. The court is expected to review witness statements before arriving at a final verdict. The incident continues to generate public interest, as the legal battle unfolds with statements from both parties shedding light on different perspectives of what transpired that night.

Salman Khan’s Sikandar leaked online hours before release, fans disappointed

With anticipation running high for Salman Khan’s Sikandar, the film’s online leak has disappointed many. Just hours before its release, the AR Murugadoss-directed action thriller surfaced on piracy sites. Infamous platforms like Tamilrockers, Movierulz, Filmyzilla, and various Telegram groups have made the full movie available for illegal download and streaming.

Despite strict anti-piracy laws and ongoing crackdowns, piracy remains a major concern for Bollywood. In Sikandar's case, the leak likely stemmed from camcorder recordings in theatres, which were quickly enhanced to HD quality and uploaded within hours.

Meanwhile, celebrations are in full swing for Salman Khan’s Eid release, with fans lining up in large numbers outside theatres to experience the film on the big screen. Videos from around the world captured fans celebrating Sikandar's release—dancing inside theatres, cutting cakes, and cheering for ‘Bhaijaan’ Salman Khan – are doing the rounds.

Directed by A.R. Murugadoss, Sikandar features a powerhouse ensemble, including Rashmika Mandanna, Sathyaraj, Kajal Aggarwal, and Sharman Joshi, alongside Salman Khan.

With its grand scale and star-studded cast, Sikandar aims to have a good journey at the box office. Salman’s last release was Tiger 3, which had released in 2023. The film was a part of the Yash Raj Film’s spy universe.

Shreyas Talpade accused in Rs 100 crore ponzi scam in Uttar Pradesh, FIR filed

Shreyas Talpade, along with 14 others, has been implicated in a major fraud case in Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district. The allegations involve duping villagers out of crores of rupees through a deceptive chit fund scheme.

The accused were allegedly associated with 'The Loni Urban Multistate Credit and Thrift Cooperative Society Limited,' a company that targeted rural investors with promises of high returns. Agents of the company reportedly assured villagers that their investments would double in a short period, leading hundreds to invest substantial amounts. However, after collecting crores from unsuspecting villagers, the company abruptly ceased operations and its representatives disappeared.

The fraudulent activities had been ongoing in Mahoba for nearly a decade before coming under legal scrutiny. Authorities have registered a case at the Srinagar police station, initiating an investigation to uncover the full extent of the scam. Further actions will be determined based on the findings of this probe.

This incident adds to Talpade's legal troubles. In February, an FIR was filed against him and veteran actor Alok Nath in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly defrauding investors of over ₹9 crore. The case was lodged at Gomti Nagar Police Station in Lucknow. Additionally, both actors, along with others, were implicated in a multi-level marketing scam in Sonipat, Haryana.

The Loni Urban Multi-State Credit and Thrift Cooperative Society has been under scrutiny for similar fraudulent activities in other regions. In Uttarakhand, the society reportedly operated 35 unauthorized branches, defrauding investors of approximately ₹92 crore by promising high returns. The Uttarakhand Police have arrested five individuals in connection with this scheme.

As investigations continue, authorities are working to bring justice to the victims and unravel the complexities of these fraudulent operations.

Salman Khan wants Karnataka-style price cap on movie tickets across the country: “There should be price cap on popcorn as well”; remarks that India is an under-screened market: “We are a minimum 20,000 + theatres short”

Salman Khan spoke his heart out during the group interaction held at a five-star hotel in Mumbai as part of promotions of Sikandar. Towards the end of the interview, he was asked about the recent decision by the government of Karnataka to have a cap of Rs. 200 on movie tickets.

Salman Khan said, “I really want that there’s a price cap on movie tickets. I also feel that there should be capping on the prices of popcorn and cold drinks. The producer should also get a share out of it.”

He also sighed over the fact that India is an under-screened market, “We are a minimum 20,000 + theatres short in our country. We are releasing our films in just 6000 screens. We were shooting for Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) in Mandawa, Rajasthan, from where 100 billionaires have come out. There’s not a single theatre in that town. You have to drive 2 ½ drive to see a film. Hence, there’s a shortage of cinema halls.”

When asked how he defines mass cinema, Salman Khan made an important comment, “The separation between mass and class cinema has gone away. Now, even in multiplexes, people have started whistling. The same happens in Gaiety-Galaxy.”

He continued, “People pay a huge amount and buy tickets in black. Ideally, they should be paying the same amount – Rs. 1500 or Rs. 2000 – and watch the film in a multiplex. You might get maybe 3 tickets in that amount. But they say ‘Nahin, humko toh Gaiety mein hi film dekhni hai’!”

The superstar continued, “Even PVR Inox waale prefer to watch a film in a Gaiety-Galaxy. They enjoy the experience there. They watch the film again as they are unable to understand (due to the whistles and noise).”

Sikandar releases in cinemas on March 30.

Santosh Release halted by CBFC over depiction of police brutality and caste issues; director Sandhya Suri REACTS!

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has stirred controversy by blocking the theatrical release of the internationally acclaimed film Santosh in India. Directed by British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri and starring Shahana Goswami, the film has been lauded globally for its raw depiction of police brutality, sexual violence, caste discrimination, and misogyny within the Indian police force. However, these very themes have led to its rejection by the CBFC.

Why did the CBFC block Santosh? Santosh, set in a fictional north Indian town, follows the journey of a young widow (played by Shahana Goswami) who joins the police force and investigates the murder of a Dalit girl. The film doesn’t shy away from exposing systemic issues like police brutality, sexual violence against lower-caste women, and institutional biases such as Islamophobia. While these themes earned Santosh critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival and a nomination as the UK’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars in the International Feature category, they have proven too provocative for the CBFC.

According to reports, the CBFC demanded extensive cuts to the film, citing concerns over its “negative portrayal” of the Indian police force. Director Sandhya Suri revealed that the suggested edits spanned several pages and targeted core elements of the narrative, making them “impossible” to implement without compromising the film’s integrity. Santosh director REACTS to CBFC blocking the film In an interview with The Guardian, Suri said, “It was important to me that the film is released in India, so I did try to figure out if there was a way to make it work. But in the end, it was just too difficult to make those cuts and have a film that still made sense, let alone stayed true to its vision. I don’t feel my film glorifies violence in a way that many other films focusing on the police have done. There’s nothing sensationalist about it.”

For now, Indian audiences hoping to see Santosh in theaters may be out of luck.
